News Jack Dyer Stand -Demolition Has Begun

I really don't get all the fuss about the Jack Dyer Stand being removed. Especially if it means that the new building means that the men don't have to share facilities with the AFLW/KGI/BHF.

With the AFL team having the whole of the Swinburne Centre the team itself will have more space to devote to off field training programs/team meetings/recovery & rehab. The coaches will have more room for their offices as will recruiting staff. All of this will enable the AFL side to continue to perform as well as they have in recent years.

If the loss of the Jack Dyer Stand is the sacrifice that needs to be made then IMO it's a small thing to give up in the grand scheme of things.

how good would it be if the afl side had access to the whole swinburne centre AND the new centre

thread title should say (not for the Afl team). 23 pages and its not even for the afl team. amazing

Im for the new development but did Willism Cooper have any involvement in our club history? If not then using his name is unacceptable. There must be some Richmond history connected for someone to get his name on anything. If they wanted an aboriginal name they coukd hsve called it the Rioli Mitchell Centre afterMaurice Rioli and Michael Mitchell.
When the development is being state and federal funded its more than a little rich to be making demands on calling it the dusty Martin stand. It’s called diplomacy , perhaps leave it to the experts

I’m hearing the new Jack Dyer stand will be named the William Cooper stand, are we happy about this? I understand that was one of the conditions of the grant.

Absolutely nothing against William Cooper and all for the new stand but if this was 1 of the conditions then it seems we just sold out Jack Dyer for $30 million.

**** Jack dyer. He’s not the only champion the club has produced. It’s just a crappy stand, luckily we still have the Jack dyer statue and Jack dyer medal and Jack dyer stuffed toys and toilet paper.

I’d rather worry about our living past champions than get caught trying to diefy a dead one. If your that keen to waste your cash I’m sure Royce Hart could do with some help.

yep the MCG became just another cookie-cutter stadium, could be anywhere.

The SCG is world famous and recognizable because it merges the old and the new so well.

It is not easy, it takes imagination and extra effort, but it can be done.
Adelaide Oval too.

I’ve never heard a Richmond supporter say f*ck Jack Dyer and honestly dont want to hear it again. Like I said I’m all for the new stand. And you’re right. It’s not even about Jack Dyer. It’s about all our immortals. It should have been named after Royce Hart or Francis Bourke or any other immortal. They are obviously all more than worthy. It’s about selling part of our soul for money. It just doesn’t feel right.

It's a state government project.
They're trying to politicise it by naming it after a political activist.
Sport and politics should not mix.
It's not a political centre FFS.
The development wouldn’t be possible without govt funding so quit this selling our soul hysteria , without the govt contribution the development would look more like the saints Seaford training base and I ain’t kidding

You realize we train in a place called the Swinburne center and wear a jumper emblazoned with Jeep in place of our logo?

Jack Dyer isn’t the club, he’s just one of many champions of the game that have played for Richmond. There are plenty of people who have done as much or even more for the club, some on field and some off field.

They're trying to turn a footy oval, with a rich and unique history, into a political platform.
Spit roasts for pollie handouts.
Footy was my only escape this year, all my relatives being elderly, had to provide daily food and medicines.
And a lot of other people struggled even harder, way harder.

The stand can go from punt road, but must be relocated brick by brick, plank by plank to another location, it's as simple as that.

Heard idiot Hocking on the radio today saying he's just a "custodian" of the game, and in the next breath saying how he's looking at ways of improving the game.

It was infuriating

During the save our skins time we would have sold it out for $100,000k
Bull.
No doubt you were there like many of us listening to Jack Dyers impassioned speech on preserving the history and tradition of the club.

Lol, give up the Bingo.

"“I look around today and think that they dare – dare is the word – to try and throw us out of the league. I think they must be moonstruck up the top there somewhere.

“Thank God you all turned up. I was a bit frightened that they mightn’t turn up, that there was rain or something like that. But they’re from here from all over Victoria.

“God, I hope they write about that . . . You can tell them that there’s more here this morning than those two teams that they’ve got up there in Sydney (sic). Twice as many people here . . .

“I get horrified, I can’t sleep of a night.

“I can’t watch replays if Richmond get beaten. I can’t do any of those things. I don’t even buy the paper of a Monday morning. But if they bloody well win, I’ve got plenty of them, I’ll tell you that.

“They seem to think, up there in the ivory tower, that they might have found something here. They’ll all be level down there. They’ll all be in the five, in the six.

“There’s always got to be someone last and someone second last, someone third last. And when they wake up to that, perhaps they’ll get a bit of bloody sense.

“Thank you for coming along, don’t go away and forget to put in your pockets.

“Just give up the bingo for a while and just give up those racehorses for 10 weeks, and we’ll get out of it.”

The Social Club was never going to be a free for all. It took us years to get our liquor licence back, and the club wasnt going to risk losing it again.

also you can still drink a beer on the terraces at any VFL game they host
A free for all is anyone attending punt road post match, I’m talking about any member should have some access.

The rusted on basic member cannot access post match drinks at punt road unless they up membership ....... this to me is ‘pay for the privilege’

VFL game day drinks, whilst appealing to some are not my preference, I prefer walking past punt road after an AFL win, loss or draw and walking into punt road to have s beer. However that ceased years ago, only to head up swan street to another venue.

Therefore, I suggest the club start looking to extend facilities so basic members can have access to post game drinks at punt road.

You may not have experienced the days when the club didn’t give a rats about what membership you held, they were more interested in raising cash for the club anyway they could ....... including selling beers to ANYONE walking past!!
