Letting players go for nothing in spite sounds like an excellent list management strategy. Lol.

He's worth a mid to high second rounder. Why you'd prefer you get nothing for him is both baffling and amusing.

A mid to high second rounder is worth a lot less to GCS than it is to other clubs, they may not even need it this year. They can't just let clubs waltz in with rubbish offers for very high draft picks, that is more damaging than losing a player who contributes very little on the field and a draft pick they don't need.

You can Get them through draft eg Gibbons and deluca without commited them to long term. Casboult is half decent but near expired date, you don't want to get food poisoining with food, same thing with players, Carlton used him until near expired date.

Seriously I think you should just read what 747 posted. I honestly think casboult near the end like Thomas. I get you want a bargain but casboult is not the answer, Lukosius and Ben King will want to request trade if they get paid less and yet perform better than casboult. McGowan, McKay and other young players with Carlton all signed extension contract with higher salary than casboult..

Obviously what a player is worth, and what the club wants will be different. Otherwise the trade period would be over in 10 minutes.

Ok, then lets change tact. Who on our list do you feel would be a fair trade? Remembering of course that Martin isnt worth one of Cripps, Charlie, McKay, Weitering, et al, so lets avoid that nonsensical line of discussion. Casboult + Jones/Polson perhaps?

JOM they made hawks jump through hoops before they eventually got what they demanded

I am here because I am worried my club might do something stupid and pay for a guy that's achieved zero in 6 seasons and heading towards the delist pile.


Betts will be done for nothing and Papley will be a nice addition when Sydney need that extra pick for Daniher.

If you enter the draft as a mature age player then you can nominate your own salary on the form, and whoever drafts you is obliged to pay that amount. The chance of him going into the draft without nominating a salary is next to zero. The chance of him going into the draft at all is ridiculously low.

Carlton will get a trade done. Martin and his manager won't let it get to the point of going to the draft, if it gets that bad they'll find another club that can get the trade done. There is no incentive at all for anyone involved to force him through the draft.

All reports are GCS approached Cas. Not us offering him up. We don't even know if he will be involved in a trade. If the 2020 trigger in his Contract is an option, he'll just not trigger the option and go to them as an UFA.

Gold Coast will probably have 4 picks already inside the top 20 with a PP and Ah Chee trade , Dont think a pick mid to late 2nd rounder around 35-40 will get used with all the kids they already have on their list.

Going to be an interesting trade period

hows this for a trade idea,Lets say if GC gets pick #19 from brisbane for Ah Chee
#14+#19+Martin to Carlton
#8 + 2020 Carlton 1st rounder to Gold Coast

I doubt we will give up that sort of position in 2 drafts, especially for an OOC Martin

Deal will get done similar to Caddy, who was slightly younger at time of trade, yet had slightly better output, so it will be an early 2nd rounder and a swap of later picks

Martin is worth an overall value of around 20-26

Who knows but in my opinion it has to be something the club needs, they are likely to have picks 1,2,14 and whatever they get for Achee so a second rounder is worthless as is a future 2nd as it is likely to be in the late 20’s or even later with the FS and academy picks

He’s not worth pick 8 so that is unlikely unless something significant comes back your way. I am wondering if this is the delay in him nominating, as the clubs and his manager would want to ensure a deal can be done before announcing
