Traded Jack Steven [traded to Geelong for #58]

but the thing you need to remember is last year he was our only player that was even close to being a star in our team from a PR level having the disaster season of 18 and losing our best player we would have been killed by the fans and our membership that already took a hit would have taken a massive hit so i do understand why the club were not interested at all in doing that trade ... this year obviously the situation has changed with Jacks personal issues hitting a point where he needed time away from the club, also with the strong posibility of us gettin Hill in the trade period the focus can move away from whats best for the club into whats best for the player that we do have a huge investment in his welfare .. i think the really disapointing side of things is the way some parts of the industry are really lowballing his trade , your coaches comments i think do nothing positive for Jack and really dont help the trade at all ... we understand that Jack is for lack of a better term damaged goods in the eyes of Geelong but for you coach to air that in an attempt to lower his value in trade i think was a tad insensitive and honestly really insulting to the St Kilda football club and i feel it is possibly against what the managment of your club would want aired about the possible trade...
the fact is we saints fans love Jack Steven we dont want him to go but we understand that for his well being going is something he feels will help him. Geelong devaluing him and talking him down isnt going to sit well with our fans , you guys are getting a player who if overcoming his issues is a fantastic player... you are going to get him for a bargin regardless so dont be greedy and make us regret doing the right thing by our player by offering junk picks for a guy we love
Not blaming you for keeping him .. contracted player but there was the element of what has been a much bigger element this year.
Id be happy to see him stay and play for the side that has supported him.. still a year to go..but the outcome would have to be tenuous.
You would have a better chance asking for a younger player than a pick in a way... someone like Zac Guthrie or Jarm Jones ... gusy who have shown something but can not break in... they are young and probably offers more than a late pick ..both have played srs.

which is why he would not be traded.. he has another couple of year to get into the side and establish himself..

Which is fair enough, I wouldn't trade him either if I had high hopes for him down the track. But if you (royal) are going to devalue other teams players to suit your argument it goes both ways.

thats ideally what i would want ... forget about Abbott he is too old and not up to standard but if we managed to turn Jack into a young kid with prospect then as a saints fan ill be happy ... Constable is what i really want but i understand he is rated pretty highly but thats the thing i would see as the best solution opportunity is one thing St Kilda can offer we dont have a team of auto selects so any player coming to us if they put in the work will get their shot

Thats not happening... as the wc supporter said ..he is at bottom value atm.. he is contracted ..and is still learning..there will be plenty of chances down the track..

Your comments are reasonable ... Its a shame he was not traded last year.. I think you may got some serious picks for him..

To be fair we made an offer last year and they said no.

Someone like Constable might be look at his options given he can't get a regular spot in the 22 and Geelong have sounded out ready made replacements in case Tim Kelly leaves. A bit like Jack Steele joining the Saints. Some players think they are ready for senior footy and don't want to hang around in the twos, others would rather stick it out where they are.

You have to admit, we’re damn unlucky to lose the following in the past season and will almost get nothing in return for any of them:

Lewis Pierce (concussion)
Billy Longer (concussion)
Koby Stevens (concussion)

Jack Steven (mental health)

Paddy Mccartin (probable, concussion)

Dylan Roberton (probable, heart)

For all of those we may get a second rounder back, unfair world isn’t it.
That's pretty brutal, mostly McCartin and Roberton. Paddy didn't even really get a shot at AFL.

Nah, his issues this year were fitness and defensive running related. He can solve those problems this year with a good preseason and the threshold to break into the seniors at the cats next year is going to be materially lower.

If he improves his fitness and defensive efforts he'll play every game. If he doesn't he'll play nearly every game

A fat Jack Steven would have contributed more than the poop Ablett dished up this finals series
Yeah we saw that in that second game up against Carl at the MCG. Ablett could be 50 and not wheel out a performance like that. If your looking for the definition of “poop” or embarrassment I’d start my benchmark there.

Ablett is 35 and contribute another 20 possession 1 goal game. Anybody else and ppl would be giving it a huge tick.

you are right to an extent his value has plummeted due to this year it certainly has … the thing you are missing though is you will not be getting the player who played in that last game of the season … that player was Jack Steven without training at all for a long long period , that player was a player who realistically should have been still cutting weight and building fitness not getting gifted a couple of junk games at the end of the year... the player you get will be the Jack Steven after a full pre-season (having been out of the mix for so long he would come back after Christmas ready to work), the player you will get is a Jack Steven desperate to show his worth to a new team , a Jack steven who will be working his butt off to meet the standards of you Geelong side... so yes his value is lower but he still brings a fair bit to your team if he goes there … without this years issues he would be a late first in value St Kilda know they aint getting that so they wont even bother starting there . the two clubs while in the past being fierce competitors on field during trade week have had a fairly good reputation with each other to get a deal done … I cant see this being any different .. I think a third round is not enough but depending on what other trades are being done I think Geelong will come to the party with something a little better than that a pick in the 30's I think would be about right
I think we'll pay pick 36 and I'm happy to do that despite my opinion that the trade would be overs. More just out of respect for the player, the saints, and the process.

I give it a 25% chance he comes in and plays every game and we extend him to 2021, a 25% chance he plays 5 or so games late in the season for no impact and is delisted, and a 50% chance he has a strong game here and there but is also dropped at least once.

Asking for constable just isn't engaging reality here. Next year constable is an 80% chance of being on the auto-select list with Kelly gone.

With a pick shuffle I can see Steven and Charlie Constable swapping clubs.

What I've heard during the week of 3rd and 4th round picks for Steven is garbage i think.

When fit a gun player even if he carries a little extra pudd.

Then he can stay on the saints list and finish his contract. CC goes nowhere he is contracted to 2021. Comback after JS finsihed his contract with the saints who have be very supportive of him.. and we look at him as a FA. One doesnt trade a player you hope to be a 10 year player for a player who is at best .. a risk.

Excellent stance, I really hope it plays out like this if Jack can get his head straight and be happy.

If you want Constable, we are not giving you a pick 30ish and you would be giving us picks back to be honest.

Constable is highly rated, under contract and you will be paying a hefty price for him.

Maybe Simpson or Z Guthrie as they are trade bait but really that just be for free on top of the trade.

Otherwise I think a pick around the 30 mark or a little before it is fair value for you. Overs on our end given Steven's age, lack of playing time at the moment and some inconsistent performances but surely you take that and call it a day.
