I'd be happy to pay pick 36 despite the reasonable risk that he never gets back to 2016
Or 2017, or 2018? This talk of him being finished is absolute crap.
Cats fans can talk him down all you want, but he dominated the Saints BnF in 2018 and his career stats speak for themselves.
He's been incredibly consistent over his whole career and has hardly been injured in 8 years.
He came back in round 21 after 15 weeks off with mental health issues and won us the game against Freo.
Yes he came back unfit and played average for the last 2 rounds, but to say he can't get back to his best is simply wrong.
He isn't coming back from a debilitating physical injury that jeopardizes his physical fitness or movement.
We all want the best for Jack, and if that is playing in Geelong and being close to his family, then I wish him the best.
But Geelong can't play hard ball on Kelly and offer unders for Jack. A second round pick (25 - 30) I think is more than fair.
Either way, he's bled red, white and black since being drafted and it will be sad to see him go.
Thanks Stuv 🔴⚪⚫

All the talk about him getting back to his best is simply hypothetical what ifs. Business and trade deals work on risk and reality. And what he went through and achieved on field in 2019 was very concerning. He didn’t even look an AFL footballer his last few games. That’s what we have to go off not what he was years gone by.

If it isn’t a third rounder I think geelong will do the right thing and not pursue him

This is exactly why a trade is so hard. There's so much emotional investment in a player that has spent 12 years at a club and been consistently one of the better players there over that period. How do you reconcile a realistic trade value against the value placed on him by the club and its supporters? Certainly judging by Wells comments on radio recently it's unlikely you can reconcile those two.

Hopefully Saints hold firm and keep him until the end of his contract and then deal with Geelong

Thats what id like to see as well..let him finish his contract with the Saints they have supported him thru his issues.. he is a FA next year ..we can wait till then.

He’s the guy that Steven allegedly had a brief fling with that no one will say even though everyone knows. I really don’t get why people don’t just say it.

This bullshit rumour again.

Just because the guy is a goodlooking rooster with "boyish" type looks the homophobes on BigFooty like to make up rumours.

Check out Jacks' instagram and you will see his long-term gf features regularly.

Plus pre-football one of my daughters was in an overlapping social circle with the two Jacks. Gay he is not.

IF Steven is happy at saints would you please sign him up beyond next year, do everyone a favour...
an analogy here would be
the reject shop selling out of date food and still asking the rrp for it

the saints need picks, and need to move on his salary
the cats are not simply going to solve their issue

Firstly RRP for a 29 year old 4 time best and fairest winner would be at least a first round pick and no one is expecting that for Steven.
As for the rest you are partly accurate the Saints need picks agreed - what they don't need is junk picks got plenty of those.
Also don't need to move on his salary in fact that is probably the crux of the deal Geelong need us to pay part of his salary and the expectation if the Saints do that would be a reasonable pick in return. ie. something we can use to get the other deals done.

its not that easy
as you are liable for the salary at the moment, and given his condition and ability to get on the part there is huge risk and no-one would take on the wages bill from the saints who is in contention
the crux here is you need picks an dont know where to get them from

Yeah but we can easily pay his salary we don't need a salary dump, that is not a problem. Geelong however can't pay his salary. So if they want him they will need us to pay his wages, I presume they do want him given all the talk over the past 6 months and the years of tapping him up before that. We have lots of space in the salary cap and no picks, you have no salary cap space and lots of picks, or you will once Kelly is completed, seems a straight forward transaction, give us something we can use to get our trades done and we pay the wages. Maybe you are right though perhaps your lot are looking for an excuse to back out of the commitment they made to him.

not really, you are bringing and have expensive players
carlisle, ryder, hil;l are not cheap
stevens is on a truckload

we get for free in 12m, so one needs be aware of this as well

We had enough cap space to offer Congilio 1.4M a season 2 months ago on top of what we were offering Hill, I think there is room enough in our CAP

For free you say? Like how TK is going to West Coast for free?

Geelong fans do make me laugh.

Agree it would be better for all if he was a Free Agent now, but he isn't, not sure it is in anybodies interest least of all Jack's to leave him in Limbo for 12 months. Another 12 months like the past 12 and he is definitely cooked. Assume Saints and Cats both accept he needs to be close to family down Bellarine way to be able to get back on the park consistently. Some risk for the Cats but the upside is pretty big and I assume they are keen. Big loss for the Saints but he has earned some credit and we want to see him recover. I imagine he can't really afford to give up the last year of his big money contract probably the last year of decent coin he will earn so here we all are. My guess is Geelong will wait till later in the trade period to see what they have to offer and the % of his salary we cover will vary depending on what that is, but ultimately it will get done.

mitch clark is a prime example, lets not get excited about what players did 2-3 years ago
massive risk, that no-one wants to take
