Delisted Jackson Hately [requested a trade to Adelaide, walked to the PSD]

Wow - Great outcome for Adelaide and Jackson. With shortened lists and limited data on this years draftees, a player with a greater data set helps when deciding. Jackson's height means he can also rest forward, again helping with the smaller lists and less flexibility. Having the threat of pick 1 in the PSD and having Jackson nominate only Adelaide really helps in ensuring Adelaide get a real steal. Probably worth between pick 15 - 20 in this years draft giving the limited available data, but should go for somewhere between 25 - 35 due to the massive advantage Adelaide have at the trade table.

If you don't think the media would create a narrative of 'AFC have whinged for years about players leaving and how its unfair but only offered GWS peanuts' then you're kidding yourself. That is ultimately the important part. ******* over GWS only effects GWS, it is the media attention that spills over to the rest of the clubs and your players. You can guarantee that at an appropriate time, someone will be in one of your players' ears offering them more money to go through the PSD and justifying it by saying AFC have done it before.
This much salt over some no-name fringe player. Jesus christ. Get some help.

Taken by GWS at Pick 14 I think. Coached by Nicks last year, so I presume he has more idea of his skills & potential than you or I. GWS have too many midfielders at the present. He is a replacement(I think) for the departing Crouch, which leads me to this question. I know Matthew Nicks said in a post season interview that Crows need more midfielders(& Elijah Hollands, Will Philips & Tanner Bruhn look the goods), but as it's most probably Tex's last year in 2021 & there are 3 versatile tall gun forwards in the one draft(which is rare in one year) wouldn't the Crows want to grab one of them? Second question- given Thilthorpe's groin issues would you grab McDonald? He's had a great WAFL season, playing against men & has a strong connection to the city of Adelaide as his mother was born here & he's visited every year as long as he can remember.

Not saying Hately won't be good but Port fans being salty about this is rather pathetic.

I was listening to former recruiter Matt Rendell being interviewed earlier in the year and he thinks Thilthorpe at number 1 is a no-brainer for Adelaide. I would say KPF's are just as much as an issue as mids at the Crows so I expect us to recruit at least one of Thilthorpe or McDonald. My money would be on the local kid.

Yeah, KPFs are a massive issue for us in the near future. You have Himmelberg who had a good few weeks, though will probably cap out as a 2nd KPF/Ruck in the best case scenario. Fogarty who, well... there are question marks at this point if we've even taken the right path with him becoming Tex's replacement (instead of a third tall/mid hybrid), though of course, he'd need to get much fitter to do either. That said, he's not the long term answer for a no.1 KPF at this point in time.

We desperately need star players in both sectors.

That said, my money is on McDonald over Thilthorpe (and I would go as far as to say I would be very surprised if we don't draft McDonald at our 1st pick). The local kid is attractive, but from what I've seen/heard/read, McDonald has put down quite the season in the WAFL and has a lot of development left in him.

and mids are alot easier to come by. If im adelaide im bidding on the WB prospect then taking Mcdonald when they match the bid

Yeah, that's what I'm doing as well. If we don't trade for the WB 1st round pick of course, as I'd be comfortable with passing on the bid in that case as a show of good faith (which should be our biggest priority in this upcoming trade period, seeing we certainly are able to help the Dogs out without heavily impacting our own position as we have the points to trade them, and our own NGAs didn't set the world on fire this year).

I think the draft next year has a highly rated SA mid early on (Horne, i think) so can go tall with pick 1, pick a mid with the GWS pick then also get a mid next year. Along with Hately and the rebuild has pretty much happened. Just about getting games into the young players and topping up.

South Adelaide have 2 other possible 1st round 2021 midfielders as well as Jason Horne running around down at Nourlunga as well Matty Roberts and Arlo Draper

The PSD hammer is an interesting one in this case. I don't understand or know all of Adelaide's targets (if they have more than Jackson). If there is a second high profile player, time becomes of benefit to GWS. If Adelaide have two targets, and use the implied threat of the PSD to force an unreasonable trade, then GWS and the theoretical other club can sit on their hands. Adelaide can't take two players with 1 pick, and the longer the negotiations play out with two players, the shallower the threat of the PSD pick becomes.

Interesting times - do any of the ITK Adelaide posters know if Adelaide are keen on other profile players?

Why would they burn bridges with a club that has dealt with them fairly in the past. That is a Dodoro move. How many trades has he won in the past 5 years?

I don't think in needs to be an explicit play. All clubs know the draft hands of all other clubs. Everyone knows Adelaide have Pick 1 in the PSD - everyone knows this can excised. Whether or not it is exercised, is immaterial - everyone knows it could be.
In the same way GWS know Adelaide's picks - they won't ask for 14 if the know Adelaide have 20 and 29 (is this right?). I think they'll ask for 20. I think Adelaide will offer 29 with change coming back.

If Adelaide blink first to concentrate on other trades, GWS get 20. If GWS blink first and take 29, Adelaide do very well. I think both trades are in the spectrum of 'fair' and not really 'burn' type negotiations?

Connor rozee:cool:

Doubt Adelaide give up pick 20, history tells us that the first pick on night 2 of the draft is worth a lot. Adelaide would want to retain that valuable comodity.

My bet is it'll be 29 plus a swap of future third rounders or something.

Will 20 still be ‘20’ after compo?

20 will be about 27 in this draft after all the Academy bids and FA compo. So 20 is about right.

29 is good for GWS.

If Adelaide is looking at a couple of players - and they currently aren't - they'd say "first to agree gets 29, because once it's gone we only have the PSD left".

But it's not that relevant. Fantasia is the only other possibility, and he's probably 45.
