Delisted Jackson Hately [requested a trade to Adelaide, walked to the PSD]

Channel 7 Adelaide news saying Crows have offered pick 40, that's it. Or PSD I presume.
To clarify, GWS wanted 23, we are offering 40.

All along I have been saying it should be our pick 33.

Doubt it will require the PSD.

I don't think the PSD needs to be visited. I also don't think the club needs to part with pick 23 to get the trade done.

Who knows what either club think is a reasonable trade.

Suspect GWS would be more focussed on Caldwell and Carmeron atm

Considering that GWS are asking for a 1st rounder for Caldwell you might want to do a comparison between Caldwell & Hately and see why they might be asking for that but for some reason happy to let hately go for a pick #40+

Pretty sure I didn't consider or try and measure GWS's happiness in trading Hately. Nor did I mention pick 40

Pick 23 is fair value.

I reckon fair value is higher. He was pick 14 with two years development in and seems to be tracking well. Problem with the current AFL system is fair value is rarely achieved especially when it comes to players out of their rookie contract. In this scenario GWS should be able to match a contract offer and make him stay, or trade him on their terms to whoever they like. Unfortunately under current rules they have lost all leverage and are really at our mercy when it comes to an agreement. The one tool they would have is to refuse to trade for unders and let him walk, but in this case we just take him for free in the PSD. I reckon it ends up being pick 33 and FWIW I think the system is BS even though we benefit this time.

Is he tracking well? Only played 12 AFL games. Six games in 2020, two of these were after receiving late call ups. His declared form in 2020 is not something to get excited about. At this stage of the Crows rebuild, I would feel the non recruitment of Hately would have very little effect on the Crows rebuild. Forty or forget about him. The bigger picture of what the Crows do with 23 and 33 might be more important than getting Hately.

If you've seen Hately's kicking you wouldn't have to ask that question.

LOL

A Port supporter....almost any player in the AFL is an improvement on Ollie Wines who went at 53.7% KE and 69% DE this year compared to Hately who sits comfortably at 80.9%KE and 79.3%DE.

ollies kicking was great this season. If you’re going off stats I don’t think they reflect what he did this year at all. Was definitely his best season by foot by some margin.

I’m not really worried about hately’s kicking. He lacks touch and I don’t think he’s a good kick which is worrying considering I’ve seen him with plenty of time and space to use it (so I don’t think it’s improving at afl level) but it’s not a concern for me at all. Hately is what he is and that’s a workhorse running mid with size and the ability to win his own ball. Fully expect him to have a very good career. I don’t think Caldwell has outperform hately at this stage but I like caldwells ability to impact the game much more going forward and I think Caldwell likely matures into the better player which isn’t a knock on hately at all.

I respect your opinion but that won't change mine re Ollie Wines' kicking, he's a ball burner even if it was better this season than past seasons.

And I also don't believe Hately is anything better than average by foot and if anything can tend to lack a bit of penetration but his size, endurance and versatility are ingredients our midfield currently lacks.
