Traded Jaeger O'Meara [traded to Hawthorn for pick 10 and GWS's 2017 2nd rd pick]

We are delusional? You're saying he's not worth much but would happily offer 1.5m so no other club gets him. Never mind the 2nd picks and Schoenmakers stuff you want to justify as a real offer.

The two aren't mutually exclusive. Hawthorn's resources to obtain O'Meara are cash, draft picks and players.

In theory the more cash we offer the less we are able to offer in the form of GCS compensation and still have the trade be economically viable.

I understand all that it's just people saying he's not worth anything because he has been injured but still think they should offer 1.5m for the same player.

Essendon has pick 1. Would be the shortest priced favourite ever.

Apparently the discussion about O'Meara's deal happened in a cafe in Bay St. Port Melbourne.

This is where is gets funny - Essendon's list manager Dodoro and former captain Thompson part own a cafe in that very precinct!
Ahh I see you read Chicken Nixons tweet as well, what you failed to mention though was he said the Hawk officials left smiling.

It's actually getting dangerous for both Hawthorn & GCS. Hawthorn don't have the resources to risk on a prospect like O'Meara and to be driven into a corner with price could be catastrophic even if he comes off. Conversely GCS don't want to back themselves into a corner where he has to go to the PSD. Sometimes a stand needs to be made but losing his trade value wouldn't be ideal even with their chest of picks.

Hey guys - quick question to break from all the chest thumping going around by both sides.

At what stage could a trade negotiation go to mediation? Is there a set of rules that govern this?
I am not 100% sure but I think when there is a complete stale mate where neither side will budge. Therefore negotiations have stopped.

There is over a week to go so I doubt it will be in the next few days especially as it maybe a complex multi team trade (eg. Hanley maybe involved).

I just find it so funny, that so many people are getting so upset without any information.

No one knows what Hawthorn has offered. It will be complex trade that will take time.

Pick 23 would have been part of the puzzle. It will get done, and everyone will be happy.

Maybe Essendon have offered Hawthorn pick 1 (you would hope not but anyway...) for a player or two and use that pick for JOM...this time of year tends to spring the odd surprise or 2.

No club would use pick 1 on JOM.

The likelihood he will be that much better than the number 1 pick would not be enough to justify the risk.

See again you are missing the point.

It is all about who holds the balance of power in the negotiation. I will give you a hint, it is the club with the most to lose.

What Hawthorn pays him is of no consequence.

Shhhhhhh

This will not please the "Those mean and nasty Hawks are trying to fleece the poor GCS" brigade.

It will outrage the "Hawthorn can't possibly land Tom Mitchell and JOM" brigade.

They struggle with the fact the Hawks get deals done because they are good at it and are fair and easy to deal with.

I will say it one last time, the Hawks will pay slightly over what they want and the GCS will accept slightly under what they want.

Simple really and it can't be resolved it will go to mediation.

Reckon they might try and swing a 3 way with Brisbane

Something like

Bris: Pick 23 + Haw fringe player?
GCS: Hanley + next years 1st?
Hawthorn: O'Meara

That fringe player will stop Brisbane using a top 21 pick. Is he hypothetically worth it?

Not sure... just trying to find the basis for a deal, I mean GCS want a player and Hanley and Callum Ah Chee have been the only ones wanting to go there... so try and orchestrate a 3 way that they are happy with?
