How? I know a couple of people involved in the process that I have enormous faith in.

Why? I'm not sure why people can make a judgement without any knowledge of his actual issue or any medical expertise.

Because in bigfooty you can pretend to know things and feel important about yourself.

Another awful decision by the club. When you are a top 4 team, there's room for the 'left-field' call. When you are a perpetually declining team like ours, you take the best available. He's got a f*cking heart condition for absolute f*ck's sake.

We are completely screwed with these clowns running the show.

?? What a d**k comment.

My point, that everyone is throwing a hissy fit about, is that our recruiting is reckless. We are not in a position to be taking risks, because we have already screwed our list doing the same thing in the past.

Clearly his heart condition is enough of a concern for other clubs not to consider him.

Too many of you are deluded.

Any drafting is a risk. Everyone was laughing a Pendlebury at pick 5 in 2005. Beams and Sam Mitchell were players that no one was willing to pick up the year before they were drafted. Toumpas was a player Melbourne couldn't overlook and was a no risk option. That turned out well.

Who are you to judge the risk though? Unless you’re a medical professional who has worked with Jaidyn then I’m afraid your argument is null.

Four clubs didn’t consider him, likely because they rated others higher. You don’t know they were concerned with a heart condition.

A huge day out for possible top 10 pick Jaidyn Stephenson, with the Eastern Ranges forward-midfielder clearly his side’s best in the loss to Oakleigh. A big game player with an enormous tank and goalkicking nous, Stephenson booted 1.2 from 34 disposals, 14 handball receives and seven marks in an encouraging display. But his brilliance wasn’t enough to secure victory against the Chargers,

4) ONE FOR THE FUTURE

AT just 16 years of age, Eastern forward Jaidyn Stephenson is not eligible for this year’s national draft. But watch out when he is.

Arguably the most dangerous Ranges player on the ground, Stephenson looms as a high future pick given his proven ability against older and bigger bodies.

Able to roam up the ground, Stephenson took six big marks and kicked 3.2 in an exciting display.

Keep your eyes peeled for this young man in years to come.

I'm not having a hissy fit, not at all, it's just that I understand that matters of the heart can be quite fraught. When it comes to matters of the heart, no risk, no reward...and I am reminded now of that great lady of rock when she sang:

We are young
Heartache to heartache
we stand.
No promises, no demands.
Love is a battlefield.
(Whoo)

I’m rapt with landing Stephenson and think he will be a great pick long term but I’m not as optimistic about him getting early games next year.

I wouldn’t be in a rush to bring him in. He is still very lightly framed. Give him a solid few months against men in the VFL and then perhaps give him a taste of it later in the season if he’s holding up.
