Any drafting is a risk. Everyone was laughing a Pendlebury at pick 5 in 2005. Beams and Sam Mitchell were players that no one was willing to pick up the year before they were drafted. Toumpas was a player Melbourne couldn't overlook and was a no risk option. That turned out well.

Who are you to judge the risk though? Unless you’re a medical professional who has worked with Jaidyn then I’m afraid your argument is null.

Four clubs didn’t consider him, likely because they rated others higher. You don’t know they were concerned with a heart condition.

AT just 16 years of age, Eastern forward Jaidyn Stephenson is not eligible for this year’s national draft. But watch out when he is.

Arguably the most dangerous Ranges player on the ground, Stephenson looms as a high future pick given his proven ability against older and bigger bodies.

Will play early and will show a lot.
Has bundles of talent and has elite pace and linebreaking ability, which given our lack of depth in this area, means he has a place immediately if he can show some form in preseason.

I'm not having a hissy fit, not at all, it's just that I understand that matters of the heart can be quite fraught. When it comes to matters of the heart, no risk, no reward...and I am reminded now of that great lady of rock when she sang:

I’m rapt with landing Stephenson and think he will be a great pick long term but I’m not as optimistic about him getting early games next year.

I wouldn’t be in a rush to bring him in. He is still very lightly framed. Give him a solid few months against men in the VFL and then perhaps give him a taste of it later in the season if he’s holding up.
