Betting is fairly normal. So is losing.
It's becoming way too normal thanks to advertising, you can't look up footy scores without seeing the odds.
I'm over these ads, the blokey "everyone bets" line is getting really old, kids don't need to be shown they can bet on anything every 5 minutes.

Yeah but I doubt we got rid of Stepho so we could engage in this sponsorship deal. Betting isn’t the antichrist, but Stepho is an idiot who bet on himself rather than any one of the other million options available.

The problem is that most people betting think they’re going to win or have a good time, and end up doing neither. They have a poor grasp of the maths, and poor self control. You’re right though, the advertising barrage doesn’t help.

I even stated at the time he was very fortunate not to cop a 2 years ban. He bet on a game he was involved in and could directly influence it. Very lucky indeed.

I'm still bewildered how he got off so lightly. It wasn't a 1 off either, he did it multiple times over a month. In other sports that's a life ban with no questions asked. He's an absolute idiot

Stephenson was still playing decent footy when that was all going down. He was the reigning Rising Star.

I wonder if there was some calculation that if banning such a high profile young promising player for a significant period of time over gambling would be bad for the gambling businesses? Bad PR?

Poor Stepho, hasn't really learned his lesson about social media. First he decided to post his opinion on Israel Falou (deleted it), then defended the right of Fraser Anning to speak his opinion (didn't say he agreed with him) and now shares his opinion on Covid.

Such wisdom coming from a footballer, like who cares?
Footballers are no more or less stupid than anyone who posts their opinions on social media.
Why they are held more to account amazes me.
The argument that the earn XYZ so are fair game makes no sense.
How much you earn does not increase your IQ.
Name any journalist working for Fox.

Their ability to influence young children should make them held to a high standard IMO

They are AFL employees. They work for a company that relies on income from sponsors and the public. As such they are required to publicly adhere to the company's values. It's why a player can be sacked by the AFL for bringing the game into disrepute.

What a spectacular fall from the lofty heights of his rookie season , couldn’t happen to a nicer bloke
Interesting that Stephenson has been dropped by the Kangas this week.
