It is, part of recruiting is finding out a players personality and behaviour off field. If they are an elite talent but an elite dope who breaks into cars and likes to party then they aren’t likely to get drafted until the 4th of at all.
Word is that he is at least very polite to the betting operators, Twitter conspiracy theorists and hospital staff.

so 1 good season makes him a good choice? Despite the pissing in peoples drinks, staying up all night playing computer games in the footy hub, betting on games he was playing in multiple times, getting blackout drunk and smashing his hip on concrete during a dumb stunt for his friends, extremely timid and outside play style… all that is forgotten because he had 1 decent season? Well done Hine, I guess.

All that stuff happened after his first season. His first season was as good as any first year player I’ve seen. You can’t deny that.

No ones a genius to sit here now and say naughton was a better pick.

I personally thought we got it right after his first year, not much to go on just the Rising Star

I was still annoyed the club traded him.
Was willing to cut him slack as a young fella in the hub.

Now I’m seeing why we did

Biggest disappointment is we got no compensation for him.

It does seem that we made the right move cutting him loose. Just unreliable beyond belief

Perhaps the reasons why we let him go are also the reasons why no club would compensate us for him.

They wouldn’t need to do a blood test, but when they are going to give painkillers or other medication they will ask -

Are you on any medication? Have you consumed drugs or alcohol? It’s best to tell the truth so you don’t die from a reaction.

There’s no way you could hide a broken hip to your club, so not wanting the medical record to go to the club isn’t an issue there.

But if something like you consumed drugs is on that file then it’s best you try to hide that.

Although I would’ve thought only the club doctor would get that and it would be treated as private.
Yes if it’s in fact true who would of spread this info anyway? A nurse, doctor etc? Or was it one of his mates? Seems unlikely.

One of the reasons we didn't get much for him is that everyone bar North rated him such a space cadet that he wasn't worth a pack of chips.

Everyone thought we’d nailed it until mid 2019. He won the rising star, was killing it on the footy field, was leading the league for marks inside 50 and was on track for a 40-50 goal season until the betting scandal.

The way he’s going now, it looks as though he’ll be one of the greatest unfulfilled talents of his generation.

I do care when them being such a colossal dickhead prevents them getting on the park
We have had our fair share of dickheads over the years and several of them have been among our best players. Every team must have a dickhead. It's how you cope with them that counts.

His 2019 form still pisses me off. Was looking to be a dynamic match-up nightmare in the forward line. Pissed away

Not when said dickhead gets himself suspended by gambling on himself, breaks his hip (not an easy injury to recover from), flirts with compromising the competition with rumoured COVID breaches last season, etc etc.

You can deal with dickheads who get on the park. You can also deal with dickheads who are consistently elite footballers. Stephenson does things which exclude him from both of those categories

looks like he tried to finally win a contested possession

Would certainly help his cause if his courage on a bike going down stairs translated to the football field, but that’s no longer our problem.
