Traded Jake Stringer [traded to Essendon]

Read the full statement from both.
If that qualifies as "a whack" in your world, life must be simply terrifying.
No it was a whack alright and I am staggered that you can't see it. Murphy questioned his work ethic and not in subtle way - 'not yet a fanatic for the daily grind'. Against the context of the coach suggesting it was time for the player and the team to explore other options how could anyone see it as anything else. The sad thing about it for the bulldogs is that they didn't keep it in house, like most other clubs tend to do. Playing it out in public for whatever reason was a classic own goal and is reflected in his market price and where this trade is headed. I am sure if they had their time again the bulldogs wouldn't have played it even close to how they did. Bulldog fans are quite rightly angry at how the trade is shaping up but that anger is sadly misdirected if it aimed at Essendon or Dodoro or Connors.

Not saying you should do it but the rationale at the time for the Dogs was that the top 30 was relatively even so two bites was better than one. Forgetting whatever the draft watchers say, if your recruiting team think there will be two players they rate available it's worth it.

Suspect it'll actually be more complex and you'll get a sweetener but I don't think it's bad idea sometimes.

Someone will shout bingo soon but the sweatener you mention IMO could be a swap of the Dogs 2018 2nd for the Eagles 2018 3rd.

So Eagles 13 + 2018 1st + Eagles 2018 3rd in exchange for

Dogs 9 + 25 + 28 + 30 + 2018 2nd.

BINGO!!!!

All I can say is that if WC do something to this effect, they better nail this year's draft. No Tony Notte, no Gerrick Weedon. If they trade out 2018's first-rounder so they can get balls-deep in 2017, there can be no excuses or half-measures. It needs to be an unmitigated success or those responsible should be flogged in the street.

You want five picks inside the first 32? Ok, but don't shit the bed. There can be zero equivocation. If they want to roll the dice in 2017, so be it. But if they strike out, or just go at 50/50, it should be lights out for the whole crew.

Agreed.

9 should land one of Brayshaw, Clark or Higgins.

It's depressing how little faith I have in WC's ability to take advantage of this situation.

My money is on WC doing a "fair" deal and then pissing away the picks.

Can we give Masten to the Dogs instead of our 2018 first-rounder?

He's awesome. He's the next Simon Black.

Apparently you guys want to off load him as a part of this 3 way trade one of Dogs or Essendon take Masten

FFS ok looks like our 2018 4th for their 2018 3rd then. This sh!t is tough to keep track of.

Or two 2018 4ths for the Dogs 2nd?
I'm not sure you would be trading a future 1st out if you were expected to slide. More likely giving up 13, for the Dogs 25, 28 and 30 IMO.

Dogs get their 1st rounder. WC get more hits to develop from the draft, and can hit it harder next year. West Coast only need to bother getting involved if they come out winners.

Not enough, for mine.

Talking about "more hits in the draft" understates the sacrifice of not having a pick until 25.

If the Dogs are hellbent on converting the Stringer deal into an extra first-rounder, that's their problem. They can pay through the nose for it. They misplayed their hand and are now getting unders. Why should WC bend over to help them redeem their situation?

Throw in WB second round next year into the conversation?

That would be four second-rounders for pick 13. Three knowns in 2017 and one unknown in 2018.

Yeah, that's more like it. At that point, I'm considering it. Short of that, GTFO.

If we assume that 2018 second-rounder is pick 30 (alongside 25, 28 and 30 in 2017), that would mean WC's "commission" is equivalent to pick 9, in points value. I could live with that.

Without that additional 2018 second-rounder, WC's "commission" would be equivalent to pick 22, in points value. Needless to say, that doesn't spin my wheels as much.

As a disclaimer, I expect WC to be far more reasonable. WC loves to be "reasonable".

Thank God we don't have the list spots to accommodate Masten!
