If we can get a couple of full seasons out of Beams while we are contending it will pay off, but thats a big if right now.
I honestly don't think it will. Particularly under our current coaches' preferences.

One of Sidebottom and Beams needs to become a permanent half forward flanker for us to fit the midfield talent and not be too outside. Which in turn forces out a Thomas or WHE. It'll be interesting.

Feels weird to farewell him this early in his career.

It doesn't feel that long ago when we traded him in and there was excitement around his untapped potential. He arrived at the same time as Treloar and Howe.

Well thanks to the Beams Trade Last Season it has Forced Aish out

You are Probably Right but I am big fan of his just makes it bit harder to Swallow the Club did not see what I saw in him

In today's game it means don't get too attached to favourite players because they can easily leave.

My favourite was Dale Thomas then it was Dayne Beams after that I don't get heavily attached to individual players anymore except for when they run out on the field.

If Beams can get motoring again he has a big influence on games.

I’d love what Beams could bring foreword of the ball.
He’s also quite accurate.

If he gets well and fit, he and Stephenson can terrify backmen.
At times they can run him through the ball.

He’s talented so if his hip gets better he can only improve our side.

We’ve got him, we may as well use him so to speak.

It's hard not too. Espically a Player like Aish who I been Standing Up for on the Board when People Shitted On Him.

I was a Massive Chris Dawes fan and was Pissed like this when he Left.

Looking back now we should not Traded Beams back in

That is certainly true.

Should we have got him or not? I’ll let others debate that.

But we have him.

He’s A grade talent. May as well benefit by having hm.

My single biggest issue with the whole Beams discussion is some suggest he did next to nothing when he actually still contributed in his 9 games. Averaging 25 possessions is not nothing. It’s not a disaster.

Here’s hoping he plays most games next year and carves up the opposition.

Didn't get a good a result as I would've liked, but I don't think we got screwed over badly or anything (given the salary cap issues). He was overpaid and imo didn't do enough. Yeah he's still a best 22 player, but I can see someone like Quaynor overtaking him, and I'd rather lose Aish now than lose Quaynor in a year or two. I know Aish is still young and can still fulfill his potential, but right now it's probably better to relieve salary cap space. I wish Aish the best and thank him for his contributions to the club.

Well, if Beams hadn't been injured and then suffered mental health issues, he could have made all the difference against GWS in the preliminary final and then you wouldn't be complaining.

Maybe but he DIDN'T

Best of luck to James.
Thanks for the games.

Doesn't change the fact that structurally another outside midfielder is absolutely not what we need. Beast like insiders and KPF were.

Beams can win a lot of his ball own ball. He needs to find his best and he didn't this year, but he still might and when he does don't forget he has won best and fairests at 2 clubs, an All Australian and has polled loads of Brownlow votes. He can still get back to that form.

Was always a fringe player. Our defense is solid. Now with Quaynor, Noble and eventually Murphy there was just no place for him in our best 22.

Making room in the salary cap for Grundly, De Goey and Moore is the most important priority at the moment.

Aish had his chances and I really tried to look for the positives in his game, but he was just never really up to it.

Really not sad to see him go at all.

Absolutely he can.

Talent is talent.
A grade is A grade.
A gun is a gun.

As Hesh Rabkin said in the Sopranos about music, which fits the occasion:

In my opinion on the whole Beams situation is that when a player of his calibre wants to come to your club, you take him (especially if you're in the premiership window). It was always gonna be a risk, but he's not gonna do our premiership chances any harm or anything. Last year people were saying Richmond recruiting Tom Lynch would destroy their forward line (given their small forward line was a large reason they won the premiership in 2017) and cause massive salary cap issues, and yet, because they recruited him, they were able to make finals and win a premiership (cause they wouldn't of had a decent key forward when Jack Riewoldt got injured). And it's not like Beams is not on our list anymore; he still has plenty time and still clearly in the best 22 when fit. Let's be patient here and have faith.

Like you say even though he didn't set the world on fire this year and had injury and mental health concerns so he was far from being right, he still got 25 disposals a game and I remember some very nice, classy moments he added. So if he can get himself right over the summer and get fresh he could make a massive impact and shut everyone up and we would all love him again. He's just got to get his head and body right.
