Did you actually see how fast the entire incident transpired?

You're also forgetting that he received a free kick for holding the ball.

It happened so quickly the umpires didn't even notice the 'vile act'. What hope did Sicily have to change the outcome other than to not tackle him at all in the final quarter of a close game?
This stuff happens in games. But let's not pretend a player in that situation doesn't know what he is doing. He made a bad decision and a decent suspension will hopefully stop him making the same one again.

Have to appeal this.

I can cop a week given the rest of the cases this year. But 3?

The tribunal talk as if the players are robots who are able to contort their bodies and predict outcomes in less than a quarter of a second.

Recklessness should be punished. Genuine attempts to tackle without malice should be left alone regardless of the outcome

It’s amazing, of the four umpires available on the day, not one of them saw that as a sling tackle.

One of them however awarded a free kick for HTB.

But fkwits in suits and ties, in suspending Sicily have decided that the four umpires on the day are incompetent.

well, do you really believe O'Meara deserved anything for his tackle in the Melbourne game? I think he should have gotten off

3 weeks sounds really harsh, but that seems to be what's happening this year

No, I don’t believe JOM deserved his sanction.

I think the MRP makes a habit of driving outside its lane.

I don't agree with it, unless a player is concussed due to no fault of his own. Three weeks seems harsh for this incident.

Although, if you can get a good QC, you could have won a Brownlow last year.

Now they prefer to be called KC.

It's happening every week mate. The behaviour isn't changing because it's not that easy to change.

Something HAS to give. The AFL needs to front the media, admit the reason is self preservation in regards to the concussion lawsuit, and tell us all to shut the hell up about it.

Or, ban tackles entirely.

Or, loosen the rules.

I can't believe I'm saying this (being a female), but when JOM had his appeal I believe he was surrounded by females on the tribunal that night. Our natural instinct is to be protective.

Lets not take the one thing carlton do well at away from them.....

The behaviour is changing
Id say 90% of tackles are different now.

There's gonna be collateral damage with the other 10% but its the price of change to reduce the risks concussions represent

So now we have to ban the “speccy” in case of errant knees to the head.

Or the smother in case the ball hits a player in the face.

What if someone is “falconed?” Does the last player touching the ball get a week or two?

This is where we are headed if we allow this sort of bullshit to go unchallenged.

Would Cripps have won a Brownlow this year, with how the tribunal has been handing out penalties?

Once you have control of him, stop rotating him. It is really easy to do, but Sicily chose to accellerate his head into the ground instead.

Youre on the ground and a 90 kilo guy is moving passed you at speed and you reckon you can have control of him.

Without pinning either arm as well?

**** me you must be a beast.

NRL has the right balance. If it’s an illegal hit - you’re in trouble. If it’s legal - it’s bad luck.

Or talking rubbish.

Similar to bump. Elect to take the action and all duty of care is yours.

In this case he pulls clug down. Players have largely adjusted to roll the opponent onto themselves. Or just stand in the tackle.

Sicily drags him down and rotates him to the ground.
3 weeks seems stiff. Thought 2.
But wasn't getting off.

The bolded makes me ask if you've even seen the tackle in question?

Just stand in the tackle? He was far away, Sicily was off balance, was pushed by Coleman and lunged to make the tackle. Sicily wasn't standing in the first place.

Your other suggestion was roll the opponent onto yourself. That's exactly what Sicily did and was his effort to roll him this way that caused the motion in the first place. In fact, McCluggage's primary landing was his bottom landing right on Sicily's chest. Sicily even used it in his defense - that they have been taught to roll them onto themselves - which is exactly what happened.

What nonsense. You can never sling someone's head into the ground. This was a dodgy tackle which was bound to cause injury and Sic has rightly been suspended for it. Had it happened on a harder ground the result could have been much worse.
