Yes because holding his left arm was the only reason. They can say with all certainty that the momentum of the tackle wouldn't have caused the issue because a fraction of second decision of McCluggage to brace with his now free arm would have saved him from being knocked out had Sicily released his arm. Get stuffed mate it's the same shit and the majority of ppl see this for what it really is. The AFL trying to protect itself from future litigation by over officiating the game.

I see the afl is still fabricating rules based on outcome.
The difference is we are nuffies on bigfooty while the afl is theoretically a professional and competent organisation…
The rules have changed. You can't do what Sicily did anymore. Pretending you don't understand that, like Hawthorn and their supporters are, is just burying your heads in the sand. The Tribunal and the Appeals Board just followed the rules rather than what some people would prefer they were.

What did he do he laid a lunging tackle. You can't do that anymore?

Edit: It was free kick paid by the field umpire

They have made up the rules as they go along and apply them inconsistently and so they can and should get ****ed.

if i give you that liberty it should have been given the more appropriate penalty of 1 week.

3 weeks is downright nonsense.

No weeks would be more appropriate.

If tackle causes the player's head to hit the ground with enough force to knock them out, then no, you can't.

You can knock somebody out with an accidental and errant poke to the eye, or somebody gets his head smacked by a 2x4 and is completely fine. Luck of the draw. You can't prevent freak accidents from occurring.

This wasn't an accidental poke in the eye, it was a dangerous tackle.

Don't rotate him as you bring him down. Tackling is a skill like kicking. If you can't do it without injuring your opponent, you don't get to play.
LOL mate he was off balance what part of lunging tackle doesn't make sense all of that happened within a second. There was no control over rotating or not rotating him. It was momentum and the only way to avoid it is to NOT make the tackle. Did you even watch the tackle in real time.

It was a fair and legitimate tackle which netted a HTB free for Hawthorn. If you think you can do better in that situation then prove it.

Demonstrate what you would do in that scenario.

You crunch someones ribs with a fair and legitimate tackle and he can't play for a few weeks then what? Somebody's leg gets planted and it gets snapped in the process, then what?

Accidents happen. You can't legislate that.

Sure. Would you prefer a powerpoint presentation, stick figure diagram or liturgical dance?

True, but completely irrelevant, because you said "legitimate tackle"

Sicily's tackle was not legitimate

As I have said earlier: make it make sense.

Picketts bump on Smith in Round 1 netted him 2 weeks. Not a footy act
Sicily's tackle on McLugagge netted him 3. A regulation footy tackle in which Sicily did his best with the position he was in, in relation to where McLugagge was at.

Not only a regulation tackle, it was awarded holding the ball and that's prior to Lions player Coleman push in the back on Sicily just as he started his tackle.
