Jarrad Boumann TO Hawthorn

So what you're saying is that these seasoned Geelong supporters that have watched there VFL team play throughout the year have got it completely wrong, so he wasn't getting out bodied or taken to the cleaners by Ryan Gamble one on one,........Oh I see because Hawthorn was interested in him then those things didn't happen. ;)

We can exchange insults all night. You seem to be the pedantic type who thrives on that sort of thing.

I have better things to do

bye

Do those that have seen a lot of Boumann think he can immediately step mup to AFL?

He obviously has the height and reach to be a key defender, but what's he like man-on-man?

Does he have good pace off the mark?

Does he read the ball off the boot well?

Does he go to spoil the ball in the air like Gibbo or try to mark it like Stratts?

Reminds me of a young John Hay (pre issues). Can spoil, kick, link up and moves well for a big fella, seems ok below the knees too. There's a vid of his BH highlights on the HFC website.

JBo will peel off and be the high third man in. Good leap coupled with his reach means he can impact a pack mark.

As far as one on one goes, he had some issues with Hawkins. Having said that Hawkins kicked 2 so the issues were not profound.

My only knock on him is he seems to get disorganised at times. Just goes to the wrong spots. This can be adjusted by coaching and a clearer system.

There is a huge upside with this kid. Well worth the punt.

It sounds by your comments FT that you have seen him play.

In your opinion, & I appreciate that it is nothing more than personal opinion, how far behind the following would you rate Boumann:

a) Gilham for FB; &
b) Schoey for CHB?

Sorry to put you on the spot. Others, please feel free to contribute as well.

Before trade week, he was delisting material according to many Geelong supporters, during trade week and when we became interested he became a direct replacement to Scarlett and worth a first rounder. Go figure

Plenty of posts on the Geelong board stating he has no idea how to use his body in a one on one marking contests, was taken to the cleaners by one Ryan Gamble. Gamble FFS, A lot of their supporters were very disappointed in his VFL year.

I suspect a similiar story could be said about one S Gilham by Port supporters prior to his arrival at the HFC.

best player to compare boumann too is dustin fletcher hopefully just as good :D i think he needs to put on a bit of weight over pre season IMO even if he isnt the player we all think he is we can still put roughead at CHB and shoey/gilham/boumann at FB. and have buddy gunston hale in the forward line :)

Granted it was only a very short vid but is he a bit up and under with his long kicks? looks to have a very deliberate but neat short kick but does he give the long ones a lot of air?

Gilly and Schoey are better rebounders. JBo should be able to develop into a lock down defender at FB. Of the three JBo is the best with the ball in the air. With JBo it is all about getting some size into him. If he can do that we have a player.

If you're saying JBo can kill the high ball, then that's gotta be good. No more watching some key forward play front and centre while four defenders try and punch the pill away from him while he marks it cleanly? Yes please.

Granted, it only happened on rare occasions, but when it did it just frustrated the hell outta me.

he will play round 1.

Gilham is struggling. Has had crook knees for 3 years and has lost that speed he once had off the mark.

My mail again yesterday is that Roughead has had another set back and will struggle to come up early in the year.

Boumann and Gunston will be in our side come round 1.

Good to see the Box hill guys continuing to be rewarded.

Could it be the club dont want to pile the kilos on our current players (losing speed) , but will with Jarred so he can push out the big forwards and stand under a high ball ?

I assume we will rotate plalyers this year like geelong did last, and it may be very much getting games on match-ups

What's Roughies set back?

It is great that he just didn't give up after being delisted by the dogs. It is a credit to him, these key position types take longer, just imagine if they were given the same time as a ruck to develop.

Mods,
Re: Roughead

Is this the type of question that we can ask the HFC Official to put the rumour to bed once and for all?

Thats not a rumor, truth unfortunately.

Source: Old man is a doctor, does some work for hawthorn on occasion and is very friendly with their medical staff and trainers.

We know he had an infection, but the constant re-circling of that info is what people are questioning.

Every third day it seems that he's had 'another setback'.

fair enough, dont know about the setbacks every third day, but one of our trainers told the old man roughead is no chance to be back for rnd 1, and sounded more like a mid season comeback. But hey, miracles do happen, look at buddy so fingers crossed

An infection wont make the slightest difference to recovery time. Unless it gets really bad which obviously it hasn't since it was reported 3 mths ago and if Roughy had a bacterial infection for 3 mths he would have lost his leg or be dead.

So if people who have no idea about anything would stop posting about things which they have 0 knowledge it would be better for this board.
