Like a glacier moving through treacle with jam tins in its way.

Found this pic of him at training

And unfortunately not even able to kick over the aforementioned jam tins. Does remarkably well for a player who can't kick, and is basically stationary for the whole game ;)

Players have weakness's, too hard for you?
Of course they do. It's the tendency to over-exaggerate weaknesses I get annoyed with (slow as treacle etc.).

You really are that dumb arent you?

Oooh, personal insults. I've read every single post of your's in this thread and I've also got access to the search function, so I know your view on Lyons. If you're trying to suggest there's sarcasm or anything other than being pissed at getting this so wrong, then you're not only a very poor judge, but you're also delusional. Anyway, whatever, knobjockey, enjoy your misery.

True genius at work right there.

Not sure if I am in this kids corner any more. Sure he is worthy of a spot in our current best 22. But as long as he is in our best 22, then our midfield is not good enough.

Not sure if we can afford to trade him without a better replacement in hand though.

Had 19 touches playing mostly hhf with a bit of time in the centre, was better than B Crouch

Agreed. Have serious question marks over Brad Crouch as well. Good but not great wont win you premierships. Its a devastating blow losing Dangerfield, so its tough. But calling it how it is, we are probably three really top level mids short of any hope of winning a flag. If B. Crouch, M. Crouch and Lyons all step up to A-grade level (eg. what we saw from Sydney) then great. We are set. But I dont think they all will and certainly I hope we dont sit around waiting and hoping for it to happen.

By no means am I suggesting the result was Lyons fault. It was collective and he was not close to the worst. But he was in the midfield battle that was the difference and many of us saw it coming a mile away.

Won't lose sleep if we do lose him, even if he was some decent attributes. Will turn out to be a very solid contributor but doesn't have any elite attributes. Good to great clearance player but isn't in the elite category and probably never will. His offense output isn't good enough to cover for his defensive deficiencies though IMO. He's like Thommo... doesn't run the other way very well and we've got too many of that type in our midfield. He is very slow and we need to get more athleticism through the midfield. If you are slow, you have to be a big big boy as a mid or, have an ELITE quality about you like Sam Mitchell's kicking/vision. Lyon's unfortunately is slow but doesn't have and won't develop that elite quality. He would be a decent 6th banana in a premiership side but at the moment our 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th best mids aren't good enough stacking up against the rest of the comp.

I like him, but if we can trade him with draft picks so as to get an upgrade, then we should do it.

I think we need an upgrade, and we're not going to get that by just giving up draft picks (or least just the ones we have), will need to come up with something.

Been our 3rd best midfielder this year and has had a very good year. But I do think he has nearly reached his ceiling.

Happy to keep him on but if a club offers up a top 25 pick we would be silly not to think really hard about it.

Still think he stays though.

I didn't think too much of him until our game against the Giants. In that game, he made the impact at clearances that got us the win, and I had to re-evaluate how I'd been judging him.

I want to go and look at the rest of his games before I made a call, but my feeling is that although he's selfish (jeez, kid, you don't have to kick a goal every game! focus on what you do for the team, not what you do for you) he also adds skills to our mid-field that make a difference between wins and losses for us.

If the rumours are true that he was offered a paltry contract which was rejected I'd say the club is trying to off load him and up his trade price by saying he's a required player. Although I like Lyons and admire him for his persistence he will only ever be an average role player I think and not a game changer which is what we need.
