Wouldn’t be surprised if there’s some under the table business going on as well with the flogs. They are 12 million in debt mind you.

Their debt levels are not relevant to this discussion. Every team has a cap floor and ceiling. Their list profile does not suggest they are going over the cap. Nothing like Geelong.

Conspiracy theory!

Reflecting on some of the North management comments over the last week - I wonder if JHF was enthusiastic with North and indicated he really wanted to go there and be number 1 pick to encourage them not to trade with Adelaide last year.

It would have been almost impossible for him to move from Adelaide to Port via trade and still live comfortably in the state. I suspect Port was into him before the draft working with him on how he could eventually get to them. Even the name change late in his draft year flagged his strong link to the Power

He seemed to turn on North from the moment he got over there - planting seeds to be able to force a trade. I do think they expected him to stay an extra year but Dunkley turning them down and Clarkson issue flaring up probably had both parties seize the opportunity to make it happen a year early

Interesting proposition. My feeling was that he didn't want to go to North and also didn't want to go to the Crows. I'm not sure who he disliked more out of North and us but I suspect it was us. If Powaa were constantly talking to him before the draft and conspiring with him how he could get back to them then they should be investigated. Btw I never saw him coming to the crows and the non stop discussion of him coming to the crows was fanciful thinking. He hates the club with a passion and I hope we target him in showdowns.

We can get Ned "the enforcer" McHenry to bite his ankles.

The other thing to keep in mind too is that for him to sign for 6 years it means the financial offer attached to it must have been pretty impressive.

Players just don't commit to contracts like that unless they're rewarded handsomely.

Kane said he believes it was 600-700k, knowing how Kane and Rucci often talk down Port contracts, it's entirely possible it could even be 800k as was reported before.

If the deal is 4.8 million over 6 years that's complete madness.

First year he is on std rookie contract - not sure what that is but say $150k. O could definitely by $800k for the other years which averages out to $700k over the whole contract

I'm suggesting JHF is being paid more annually than Rankine .....no wonder JHF only wanted to go to PORT

Meh, we got Rankine, Dawson and Rachelle.... our gloat is better than theirs...
AND we have our F1 next year to either take that top 10 kid in a supposedly strong draft OR to use for a player trade..Unless they trade out a player, they are out of the 1st round of the draft and only have Collingwoods F2 which no doubt will be a late 30's pick

Don't they need 33 for Ratagolea (sp)?
Don't think GEEL accept pick #33 .....IIRC that's been rejected by GEEL ......they'll keep Esava, if that's all they get in this Draft

I sure hope JHF doesn't drop the soap at Alberton he has had a hard enough time in his first 12 months.

Agree

It’s all potential and no production at the moment with many of his draft class having better years

Let’s not forget Port fans turned on Rozzee for a period of time, imagine what they will do if JHF doesn’t at back two years of missed draft opportunities

From what I see in JHF he looks to be a hard working blue chip midfielder, what I am not seeing is that X factor and genuine class that can turn.a game in its head

Port have played all their chips on this trade period, it’s flag or bust for them

How have they played all their chips?
JHF is young as are both Butters and Rozee, they've got plenty of time to add pieces to the puzzle.
Both JHF and Rioli ( a crafty forward who's very under rated) did not cost a kings ransom and will add so much to their team.
They have enough talented players to make a run or to trade out in a years time to improve their squad further.
Football is a long game they'll have 1st round picks soon enough.

Picks No.8, 43, 53, 57, 2023 first-round pick, 2023 second-round pick, 2023 third-round pick

A bucket load.
I totally never put any thought into this kind of thing, so I could be way off, but does that mean that if Port finish in the same ladder position next year, that it would look something like this?

OUT: 8, 43, 53, 57, (2022) / 8, 26, 43 (2023)

IN: Jason Horne-Francis + Junior Rioli
