I admit I didn't think a 4, 5, 6 club mega trade would work. Too many moving parts, too much club selfishness.

Then we had a perfect storm of clubs with specific needs who all saw wins for themselves from the trade.

The AFL even did us a favour by denying our moving out two future picks. The other clubs threw picks at us to make sure the deal would be accepted.

Still think Port and North played it beautifully when they said they would meet Monday afternoon to discuss an isolated trade. The other clubs didn't want to miss out and sorted it before then.

Port - Needed to bring in players without losing any of their own
West Coast - Chose to focus invest effort in local talent
GWS - Like the other clubs from non-traditional football states understand trading is just doing business.
North - Got forced into requiring a hard reset due to the fallout of the last few seasons.

Yes it was a horrible year this year at North, for everyone, not just Horne Francis, but when you want to be pick 1, have the exceptional talent to be taken at pick 1, surely if you are of reasonable character, you stick around for the second year and then seek a trade home.

He will probably help deliver you a flag but there will forever be a stench around Pick 1 of the 2021 Draft; and not just supporters of the NMFC but for many others in the football industry.

And if it is true that he has signed a 6 year contract with your club and that contract is at $800k per annum, then he will certainly need to deliver or there just may be one or two other boys at your club who's noses might just get a little out of joint.

In a few years time no one will even remember JHF played for North.

Baldrick, I have a very, very, very cunning plan.

I'll make North think that I want to be taken by them at Pick 1.

As a result, they won't Trade Pick 1 to the Adelaide Crows, who would surely pick me up.

In the end, it will be much simpler to get out of the clutches of North Melbourne in a years time, than it would be to escape the Crows..

JASON Horne-Francis and Junior Rioli are now Port Adelaide players after a complex four-club trade was completed to bring them to South Australia. Horne-Francis was the first pick in the 2021 AFL National Draft and moves to Alberton in a deal which will tie him to Port Adelaide until the end of 2028.

6 year deal, anyone heard or read what its worth? I assume its not $1mil a year like other #1's who moved Tom Boyd and Tom Scully

14 picks + 2 players is the biggest AFL trade ever, AND no other trade/draft have picks 1, 2 and 3 all been traded out, and here its been done in a single trade.

The 36 and the F2 pretty much cancelled each other out (with the F2 worth more if anything)

As do the F2s and the F3s.

So how the hell did we end up keeping 33?
