This latest article does not sound good. If its there, bring it out in the open and sort it out once and for all, then we can get on with our season without innuendo and rumours over our heads.

Wish Voss hadn't so definitively denied anything going on, on his watch......as stated, he would not have known everything that some of the players were up to in their private life/after hours.

God, I hate all this....just go away!!:(

Would be good if he had've mentioned what game it was.

I genuinely don't see how the hell a game can be fixed unless all players are in on it.

Would Voss throw a game?...NO

Brown? Aker? Lynch?........NO

Should be a pretty short probe if we received an irate phone call in 2003. The big bad AFL covering up match fixing 10 years ago tut tut tut.

The fact that we're stretching this back to 2003, for crying out loud.

Why not go back to the 80's and 90's and I'm sure you'll find a whole lot more drugs and match fixing.

Whatever happened from 2002-2009 whether it be 1 match fixing or 4-6 players taking recreational drugs, isn't going to change how the Brisbane Lions move forward into 2013 and beyond.

Now if you can find the 4 active AFL players who were involved, then that's all that should be done.

I feel sorry for Ash. If the AFL were to find us guilty of match fixing a players taking illicit drugs does anyone know what the penalties are?

We are a completely different club now.

New coach
New administration
New captain
New players

If you are reading this Hammo, (suspect you do, afterall, you follow facebook to get your "information" ) I have never bought into the criticism of your work before.....I am now.

What is your beef with the Lions?...you really come across as having a vendetta against us, and a real chip on your shoulder about anything Lions. Why?

Why not support us instead of trying to bring us down....be influential in growing the game in QLD, all you are doing is sending us backwards and making the game in general look bad......Is that what you want?....if so, you could very well be left behind.

...and where is your integrity in your work?....it seems to be lacking somewhat imo!

It's not in Jason "McGrath"'s interest to bring it out in the open - it's easier to disprove if it's BS, and it'd end his 15 minutes of fame.

It's not in Hammo or the CM's interest to bring it out in the open - if they can string this out over months, they can guarantee a nice little readership boost for each article. Plus naming names opens them up to libel suits if they don't have sufficient proof (which is almost definitely the case as they only seem to have one dubious person's word against whoever they choose to name).

According to the Lions, there's nothing to bring out into the open.

So unfortunately this is very likely to drag on and on.

Hammo doesn't seem to have anyone to substantiate this "match fixing" rumour, just drug stuff.

Not great, but could be far worse. The only thing that made me cringe a bit was when Voss said that if players had been taking drugs when he was around, he would have known - Well, actually Michael, sometimes you actually don't know.

If it's past players who used to take some recreactional drugs, and an unsubstantiated match fixing allegation from a single game a decade ago from a single source who did not use his real name and has since gone to ground... I'm not overly concerned.

Was Voss referring to PEDs or recreational drugs? Either way, it seems a bit naive to say the least.

But yeah, like everyone else I'm not concerned about these illicit drug claims. Obviously the match fixing stuff is more worrying, but its confusing more than anything else. Why in the world would we be involved in match fixing in a premiership year? We were one win from second spot in 2003. Every game was high stakes.

As for the club lying about a player's absence, I say good on the club. Who would seriously expect that if a player was suffering from drug abuse issues that we should tell the world about it?

Would appear to be standard AFL policy based on Demetriou's statement last week.

Hmm. So
  • one player with a major drug issue,
  • 6 that used in total,
  • No names
  • One match in 2003 that is claimed to have been fixed
  • Former Staffers as sources to back up rec drug taking claims
  • No evidence as yet
  • AFL has launched probe into 2002 to 2009 period.

I love Vossy but his 'i'd know about it statement seems a little naive'.

For mine, if i was a Lions player circa 2003- 2009, and planning to get a few mates around for a smoke which would no doubt be great fun but would likely impact on our ability to perform for the club...

I don't think the hard as nails captain, with metal holding one leg together and a reputation for being one of the toughest most competitive men in the game would be at the top of my invite list. I imagine the first rule of 'toke club' would be 'don't tell Vossy about Toke club.'

"The Lions received an irate phone call from the AFL in 2003 following the game."

Lol, even by Hammo standards, that is tenuous.

In the actual paper that comment is followed by a paragraph saying that a source who raised suspicions about the game has agreed to be interviewed by Clothier
