Quoted a single source who lacks credibility or the correct name.
OK. So at Midnight he is going to name names I presume. It is very exciting. It almost makes me want to go out and purchase a Courier Mail. Maybe not. Vanished Kingdoms by Norman Davis is far more interesting and hopefully there is a chapter on the demise of King Rupert's realm soon.

waaaait wait wait.

So Hammo the "journalist" reports a "story" which was sourced from facebook, and the man whom he is linking this all together with isn't even the right guy? I don't really know what to do with myself. Here's my contribution.

Side comment: Let me know how Vanished Kingdoms goes, been meaning to check it out.

Big fat nothing from Hammo re. drug taking and match fixing allegations so far. Just a story from another journo about what Akermanis has to say about things, and a story from Hammo about Brownie giving advice to Tom Lynch from GC.

Can't even find those articles... Where are you looking?

Hmm. So
  • one player with a major drug issue,
  • 6 that used in total,
  • No names
  • One match in 2003 that is claimed to have been fixed
  • Staffers as sources to back up rec drug taking claims
  • No evidence as yet
  • AFL has launched probe into 2002 to 2009 period.
Not great, but could be far worse. The only thing that made me cringe a bit was when Voss said that if players had been taking drugs when he was around, he would have known - Well, actually Michael, sometimes you actually don't know.

If it's past players who used to take some recreactional drugs, and an unsubstantiated match fixing allegation from a single game a decade ago from a single source who did not use his real name and has since gone to ground... I'm not overly concerned.

The match fixing one confuses me. Wouldn't that require many players to be in on it? I just don't see it considering the squad we had at the time. A list of our 2003 results here do not seem suspicious. Few losses in Melbourne, a close loss in Perth and a couple at the GABBA. The only noticeable loss was against West Coast, but they always used to belt us. Judd kicked 5 that day to go with 30 odd possessions IIRC.

So the spokesperson at the afl called it an unsubstantiated claim but said it has been referred to the integrity unit.

Does "opening a probe" mean the same as an official investigation? If so it seems weird they would just leak it to a journo rather than announcing it properly.
