It is nothing but cheap political point scoring, because regardless of how people want to view them, the current Vic opposition party has some of the worst optics in the country. The only problem is he's trying to put out the fire with more oil; if he wants to raise pressure on the current Vic government there are far better ways of doing it, whereas all he's doing now is taking a public stance which directly (regardless of it being from his personal account) impacts how our club is perceived by the public and the media.

He's entitled to his opinion, but it appears like he's willing to try and get these cheap, political points at what he believes is a detriment to the club. I despise the man.

Titus summed it up well also:

Aussie Rules is a great native sport - and I for one don't give the slightest of a damn that it's not international. Rugby folk can smugly talk about their international games - but at the end of the day nobody cares if Argentina beats Japan in intentional Rugby. Not even in Argentina or Japan. You have two regions where you have tried to grow the game and it is failing miserably - why the hell would you go looking into China and India when the Swans still can't stand on their own two feet after 36 years.

Thank goodness Jeff is taking a hard pass.

They can, they just charge $10 million per foot.

So let me get this straight, one of our players gets offered a week for daring to tackle an opponent by the wrist and drag him to the ground, while he himself is also tackled by the arm and drag to the ground without there being even a whisper of a penalty.

The club meekly accepts the week, and our president who spends every other day having an opinion on all sorts of shit both in and outside of football and who supposedly “is the only president who stands up to the AFL”, instead pens his latest partisan thoughts on the state government to the local tabloid.

And we have Hawthorn supporters that will line up here to say that their totally ok with this. Bloody amazing.

I wish he'd have a dig at the league about the Worpel suspension also.

You would rather someone be always wrong (in your view) rather than sometimes right, eh? Consistent position. Admirable.

Is he in politics? Is he in the opposition?

Who is he representing here? How many other club presidents are barreling the government like this?

How many times does it need to be said, no-one gives a fu** whether his view is right or wrong? Many people would agree this government is getting a lot wrong on this, the latest lockdown in particular.

But he has a duty to Hawthorn, while going cap in hand to the government. There are no Liberal supporters begging him to speak on their behalf, the only entity he represents is Hawthorn...

If he want to be such a strident critic of the government, quit hawthorn, and get back into politics...or speak only as a private individual.

As president of Hawthorn, I'm happy for him to speak as loudly as he wants against the power of the AFL, in Hawthorn's interests. This is not that.
I really liked Jeff and his stubbornness once upon a time.

He may as well be arching the back and inserting into our club the way he's been carrying on over the last couple of years.

His focus is really out of whack and its quite disturbing. He has a duty here and he's shitting all over it.

I have trouble understanding how Hawthorn supporters can be happy with a President repeatedly doing what he believes will harm the football club, in order to score political points. He has admitted he thinks it costs the club funds but he keeps doing it anyway. His position as president is untenable.

Your argument only holds water if you believe what has happened to this state over the last year is as mundane as political points. To bravely speak up for those who have no voice, brave as it comes at great personal risk to speak against the tide and perhaps lose that which one cares about most, is exactly the sort of fighting spirit expected from people attracted to the Hawthorn club. To slovenly grovel for a few bucks to build a sports building (which will be paid for by our kids and grandkids taxes), as advocated by the "just be quiet" crowd here is as far from a courageous position as is possible to take.

If the government sycophants here manage to get Jeff kicked from Hawthorn for daring speak truth to power then his message will only be stronger. And Hawthorn weaker for it. But your warped sense of justice will be satisfied. And how you feel is all that matters, I suppose.

#sobrave... puh-lease.

I think this line of purple prose requires another read...

🤣 🤣 🤣

"We shall fight them on Twitter, we shall fight them on Facebook.."

Man the shovels, guys...

No Issue with it Jeff, having an opinion and standing up for what is right, this government is shambolic.
Im hard left and im fine with him saying whatever he likes about politics.

For saying he would be open to the 'Tassie Hawks' relocating interstate he should be horsewhipped out of our great club.

Jeff Kennett, yesterday...

I'm yet to see an argument pro-Jeff's actions that doesn't involve 'he's right', or 'it's the truth', which isn't the problem many are expressing with Jeff at all and immediately demonstrates a political bias
Yep, the rights and wrongs of politics is irrelevant to the criticism, but it seems to be all his supporters cling to. The reason for that is because there is no part of his role as Hawthorn president that can justify deliberately doing what he believes is damaging the club over and over. If he were a company director he’d be in breach of his duties. If he were an employee he’d be sacked.

He’s entitled to his opinions and should resign the Hawthorn presidency so he can pursue his long-lost political relevance through the Murdoch press without costing our football club.

I’d rather the President of the HFC represented all members of the club, and shut the **** up about politics.

I don’t mind Jeff or his opinions. But I do agree that it doesn’t reflect well on his position with the Hawks.

Think he either needs to leave the Hawks and go hammer and tongs with his political opinions, or choose to stay with the Hawks and stop commenting on all the political stuff.
