I think Geelong know that their corporate success and future growti

i think Geelong are astute enough to know that onfield success is the best way of increasing revenue and membership. I read this as a long term corporate strategy not some ‘publicity stunt’. Why would they need publicity? And Why wouldn’t they seriously start to campaign now and in the future for something that would benefit them so greatly?

When Frank Costa starts making a play for something it’s probably a good idea if the AFL CEO takes it seriously. This won’t be going away. Gillon needs to get on the front foot and explain why it would be unfair to the rest of the competition and it’s supporters for a start. Instead all he’s done is say ‘I don’t think it’s unfair on Geelong’ which has just reinforced their narrative rather than countering it.

Hah Frank Costa does not hold that much sway (I’m sure he has the ear of some commissioners) and it’s the AFL commission that decides on something like Geelong’s home final. Gil is not able to make unilateral decisions such as that just as Anderson would need to put it to the board if he wanted to sell games interstate or similar.

How is Steele Sidesack?

Franky holds a hell of a lot of sway. I wouldn’t underestimate it.
It’s not some silly whinge.. it’s a genuine long term goal for Geelong. Why wouldn’t it be? I think we are just seeing the start of this debate and I’m not so dismissive about where it could end up. I am aware of how the AFL decides these matters.
I wasn’t suggesting Gil make a unilateral decision. The decision has been made. I’m suggesting he gives some decent back up to that decision as ceo and spokesperson in chief.

He doesn’t. He’s 81 and outside the industry. Colin Carter is the Geelong man who has legitimate power as a former commissioner for 15 years. He’s conspicuously quiet too.

Of course it’s a goal, but it’s a futile one against all but the interstate teams because of finals series tickets and the commissions stance on home state finals. Unless the AFL completely overhaul their ticketing structure no amount of bleating will change things and why would they when they have suckers shelling out $1500 a pop?

Gil doesn’t need to say anything other than relaying the commissions decision.

Don’t play in a lunch box and when that happens then people might listen. Or at least pretend to care.

Scott was complaining a couple of years ago with a final against Richmond, and since then nothing much until now.

I think it’s more of a case of Scott trying to paint themselves as the underdogs and manufacture an “us against the world “ mentality.

Re; geelong home ground advantage ->

firstly i think its absolutely mental that an elite comp like AFL allows its teams to play on grounds that are vastly different shapes and sizes. the game is played differently in geelong to every other ground used in the comp, and as such is a massive advantage to the team. if i had to guesstimate the source of the advantage that geelong derive from playing in geelong (in % terms), i would say its about 75% ground shape, and 25% home support

having said that (and dealing with the reality of the situation), i may be in the minority, but i think Geelong should be able to play all 11 of their home games at their crappy home ground if they so choose. it is their home ground.

This means they would get minimal home games at the MCG, and should only get to play there against the well supported teams as an away team. that prob means they would get 2-3 games there per year max (hopefully less)

My prediction is the expanses of the MCG would quickly become foreign to them (much like it was for the WA clubs until they changed their ground size to match the MCG) and as such would struggle to play well there..... Im also tipping they would request their "best of both worlds" current situation be reinstated very very quickly if that started to happen.

Legitimate power is not a major concern here...right so
You see the AFL ticketing system as a major stumbling block?

“legitimate power” Frank not a player you say?
Ticketing structure a major obstacle you say?
CEOs don’t need to say or explain anything you say?
Can’t agree with any of that.

So you admitted that it’s not a futile goal against interstate teams right now. So with that precedent established and some ground capacity development in the future ...it won’t be futile.

Do you think this is all just Chris Scott playing mind games to somehow give the cats a psych advantage? Cats are gonna come out all extra fired up cos they can’t play finals at KP? Really?
