Has anyone in the league tried traditional Chinese herbal medicine for soft tissue injuries? Or have those already been flagged by ASADA or WADA? I would guess some over the counter stuff might have some 'additives'. A lot of them though are all made from natural ingredients.
My experiences: When I was studying gongfu I used to get deep nasty bruises if I hit the wooden dummy wrong. I could get a bottle of dit da jow from a shop in Chinatown. It would take the bruise away in a couple days. I did a little research and the principle was the herbs helped flush the damaged cells out so new cells could take their place. I don't know but it worked.
Once I did something to my quads in one leg. Effin hurt like hell. I went to local what they call a gongfu doctor here in Taiwan. They do everything from acupuncture to acupressure to traditional herbal remedies. The main course I got was a sticky pad with some stuff on it that was a mix of deep heat and peanut butter. Each doc has his own recipe for this stuff. Had one on my quad 4 times for 2 days each and I was able to play again. And it had hurt as much as anything I had done to myself before.
Anyway I am sold on what these sorts of treatments can do for soft tissues. So I am interested if any footy players have tried.

Yeah I tried that stuff.

Fixed my hamstring, and also grew a new male reproductive organ …… on my elbow.

Story in The Age - Jez already back running.

“It’s frustrating but overall it’s not a really, really bad result. it’s not too bad at all.

“The time that it will take will be the time that it will take.”

Cameron is already back running but he was not prepared to declare a return date as it was important to put such an injury behind him.

There’s also a 6 minute interview with him on the club website which I found pretty reassuring. He’s basically confirming that he hasn’t “done” anything to the hamstring but this is what has happened to him in the past with hamstring tightness and they are going to take this opportunity to strengthen his hamstrings so he’s in the best shape for finals.

Also said that he has gone into games tight or sore probably in half of his AFL games and if he pulled out every time he wouldn’t have played much footy.

Last game was round 13 and didn’t play again until the QF. Had a quiet finals series too. His 2008-09 were much better.

His legend has grown over time. In 2007 he was a fringe player. He missed a big chunk of that year and it wasn't like he was irreplaceable.

Like you say his football was far better (and more important) the next two years.

My brother watches Jezza's Twitch. I don't play games so I have no idea if that is how you phrase it. I caught a bit and it was a lot of fun. He's a very entertaining dude.

My bro really likes it. He told me that Jezza said he was advised not to travel to the G to watch the game last night, that he is back running and that the hammy is not that bad. Also that he hopes to be "sniffing around" before finals.

His stream is surprisingly good! I say surprisingly as a lot of the times in my experience, well known people (sports stars, celebrities etc) can have a very dry personality on stream. Jezza engages and seems a very genuine guy. Glad to have personalities like him in the team, outside of being very good on field.

Just listening to Barrett on afl.com.au and he suggested Tom Hickey was the stand out recruit of the year. Haven't seen a lot of him play but know he gave Stanley a towelling when we met them earlier in the year. I'm wondering what people's thoughts are in terms of a sliding doors moment - what if we'd gone after Hickey as a no 1 ruck, say instead of Cameron, and kept our draft picks. Do you see Cameron more valuable to us this year than a decent ruckman? And what about the next 5 years or so?

Helps Sydney and Hickey that Dean Cox is on the coaching staff. Do we get him too in the sliding doors scenario?

No real relationship really. The cost of Hickey was minor and we probably could have got him for the pick we used on Neale.

In my opinion we cannot win the flag without Cameron, so yes.

If you like.. I don't know much about Cox as a ruck coach. Maybe coaching is what makes the biggest difference in such a specialised role as ruck-work? It's just that our ruck situation has just been such an obvious missing link for such a long time. I thought it worth reflecting on whether we gone too hard at stars like Cameron and missed some opportunities to do some homework on players that could really help out in the position that we most need.

I tend to see it the other way. We were close to winning the flag last year. But it wasn't the forwardline that was letting us down.
Our conversion was at 46%, Rohan has a habit of going missing in finals, Cameron has a great level of accuracy in his kicking. If you swap Rohan for Cameron we probably win last years GF. You swap Ablett for Cameron we definitely win, and Rohan on a weaker defender probably gets his token 2 goals too.

Nank was the best ruck on the field, but Stanley was still really good, won the hit outs, had more disposals and marks.

It wasn't the rucks that cost us. If Stanley played each week how he did the GF we wouldn't be having a ruck discussion right now. What killed us is they had one player they had to tank for, and we didn't have a defender who could do a job on him.

I get that point of view (intensity around the ball was lacking in the second half), however, if we had a potent forwardline (like we do now), we'd have gone into half time another 3/4 goals in front, and that would have been game over.
IF we make the GF this year, and IF injuries don't kill us, I'd put money on Cameron being top 3 for the Norm, such is his importance.

They did move Aliir on to get him in though according to the commentators every time port play.

Jeremy Cameron is a generational talent...no question in my mind that his selection was a no brainers....and has proven to be in his first season in the hoops

Imagine how good he could be if his body was fine.. You can tell he never seems 100% comfortable - runs with a weird action that suggests he's carrying a bit of pain. Can never stretch out etc

Spot on. Every single side in the competition would have done same deal, and those in contention in double quick time.

I was thinking about this with Henderson reaching his milestone, I think on balance, the established player is a better deal than draft picks.

There are the spectacular misses which people remember but in most cases, if a good player is available and wants to come, the deal should be done.
