Has anyone in the league tried traditional Chinese herbal medicine for soft tissue injuries? Or have those already been flagged by ASADA or WADA? I would guess some over the counter stuff might have some 'additives'. A lot of them though are all made from natural ingredients.
My experiences: When I was studying gongfu I used to get deep nasty bruises if I hit the wooden dummy wrong. I could get a bottle of dit da jow from a shop in Chinatown. It would take the bruise away in a couple days. I did a little research and the principle was the herbs helped flush the damaged cells out so new cells could take their place. I don't know but it worked.
Once I did something to my quads in one leg. Effin hurt like hell. I went to local what they call a gongfu doctor here in Taiwan. They do everything from acupuncture to acupressure to traditional herbal remedies. The main course I got was a sticky pad with some stuff on it that was a mix of deep heat and peanut butter. Each doc has his own recipe for this stuff. Had one on my quad 4 times for 2 days each and I was able to play again. And it had hurt as much as anything I had done to myself before.
Anyway I am sold on what these sorts of treatments can do for soft tissues. So I am interested if any footy players have tried.
