Don't know the ins and outs of it, but it seemed like he was pretty harshly done by in 2015 (think it was). Had finally gotten a sustained crack at it, was looking good and got (for me inexplicably) dropped for that final.
Just always seemed odd the way he was managed, but maybe he hasn't had the right application.
