There should be options other than Hawkins.

But that's been one of the major problems the side has had for most of the last decade...
Since Pods has left yes- he was a revelation.

Dont want to say too much as it is just the first pre-season game...But, if our discipline around stoppages and inside F50 doesnt show some sign of improvement since last season then this year wont be much different. So far we still seem to be getting dragged to the ball and leaving free opposition players on the outside, which is just easy ball and Inside 50's for them. And with Hawkins and maybe Esava crashing packs up forward, we have to be better around the packs with our smalls. Havent seen much sign of improvement on the basis of this game sadly, but there's still time.

Kelly was pretty ordinary. Hopefully just cobwebs and not his mind being elsewhere.

Have met his missus a few times since Christmas and she seems like a nicer person than portrayed. But does seem overwhelmed with 3 youngn’s in tow.

I really hope this loose checking game is just us "going through the motions" Otherwise, all that talk in the pre season, about us becoming more accountable, especially when the opposition has the ball, has just been shit talk!

It was a pretty ordinary hitout all around won't get much out of it except no injuries. This scheduling of the next JLT game and only two JLTs leading in to round one.

Means you were never going to see much today.

Good to see you’ve started 2019 with some positivity :thumbsu:
Hes spot on with his last point though Doc... that chip kicking out of defence is horrible to watch. Especially with our kicking skills. Clark will be a nice addition though, because hell carry the ball higher up the ground, and out of the danger zone. What is apparent, and Im not Guthrie bashing, is that neither of them belong in our best 22. Especially Cam.

Some positive signs and some negative ones. Standard JLT game really.

Particularly disappointed with the rucks - Stanley with 0 intensity and Fort was even worse. Might see Abbott in next week.

Pretty clear gap in class between the two sides which showed in the end.

Scrappy game as expected.
Good signs -
Clark didn’t look out of place
Atkins has some grunt, something we have lacked for some time
Constable can find he footy but just needs to tidy up his disposal
Parfitt looked clean and found plenty of it in the first 3 quarters
Selwood and Danger looked fit

Didn’t like -
Rucks were quite poor. Fort didn’t look great but it is only the first pre season game
Forward line didn’t really function but I’d imagine Hawkins missing plays a big part in that. Really need Sav or others to stand up as we can’t rely on one man up forward
Defenders not moving to ball quickly, instead holding onto it and taking risky little dinky kicks. Just move it on and take the game on.
Kicking in general was sub standard

Overall hopefully no injuries out of the game and we move onto next week.

Good to have footy back!

Forward pressure looked really good. Best I've seen it in ages.
New rules look good. Tommy should kick a lot of goals this year.
Parfitt looks set to become a top line player.
Clark looks good.
Zuthrie! Excellent.
A lot of problems though. Some players who have poor skills in the backline that just kill us.
Just too many poor kicks in the team overall.
Guthrie is Guthrie but looks set to be a mainstay. That's not good.
Kolo is either not fit enough, or knows he is such a guarantee to be picked that he doesn't need to put in.
That's not good.

Not a bad hit out for the lads. I'm satisfied with what I saw. Clark is good. Parfitt looking ready to go up a cog. Fort was OK. Miers looks like he's improved, same with Narkle. Some of the players not quite there yet so this would've been a good run for them.

Kelly was pretty ordinary. Hopefully just cobwebs and not his mind being elsewhere.

Have met his missus a few times since Christmas and she seems like a nicer person than portrayed. But does seem overwhelmed with 3 youngn’s in tow.

Nice to see a positive comment about the Kelly family. Really dislike all this negativity on social media. No one has any idea on what’s going on in their lives.

Positives

Clark
Constable
Parfitt

Atkins, miers looked capable

Looking ready to go

Danger, Stewart, Duncan,

Onto next Thursday

No injuries, run against good opposition

Thought it was a bit closer than scoreboard showed gave up two very soft goals before 3 quarter time Which was big swing. Very low intensity game.

Clarke very good. The other recruits were pretty poor, Fort was astonishingly bad.

What I learnt tonight - we're absolutely screwed if Hawkins cops a long term injury.

Id probably say ..it confirmed it.. cause we have suspected it for a long time. Have a look at who has been removed from our list ..each year it was gusy who could kick goals .. SJ , Chapman , Caddy , Motlop , Menzel .. we just have not replaced that type of goal power. It say something when we are relying on Parfitt.
