Peter Sumich on 6pr saying he believes there would have to be other players in the club taking drugs. Doesn’t believe it would be isolated to Rioli. Followed by a caller that wheeled out the hyperbole by saying the drug issues at West Coast happen over and over again (? really), that we are the worst in the comp by far and that the three strike rule should apply to us a club.

Sumich also getting stuck into Simmo’s coaching.
Gee what a stunning revelation from Suma. There are probably dozens of players at each club that take illicit drugs.

Actually, no we don't. It has been alleged that there was something in the sample he provided other than urine. That is about all we know. We don't know how it got there, what it was or why it was in there. He hasn't been convicted of anything and that is why it is PROVISIONAL.

All of that said, I don't hold out much hope that this will all disappear and that he did nothing wrong but we know very little. Also, as disappointed as I am in this situation and the impact it probably had last night and will have on the club, he is a human being. The one thing I have learnt as I have gotten older is that we all make mistakes. Some selfish. Some really selfish and stupid. It is times like those you need your friends and family standing behind you. What purpose does it serve to hound someone on social media with all the potential consequences? We can be disappointed in a situation and someones potential actions without baying for blood. We can talk about it respectfully, even if condemning the actions but supporting the person if and when the facts are known. You may come to the conclusion when the facts are known that he shouldn't be at the club. Fair enough. But the facts aren't known yet. I personally, generally believe in giving people second chances, although that option may not be practical if a long suspension is handed down.

Yeah pretty much what I said lol.
Provisionally banned
Not urine

Lol

Pretty naive of those two to suggest drugs are isolated to our club. Guarantee a fair percentage of the competition has the same problem.. Doesn’t mean they’re off their face on coke or meth like the mid 2000s, but 100% you’d have players smoking a joint every now and then.

Well said.

Such a bitter campaigner.

He can EABODs.

Why not blame him ?

Oh I think it's fair enough that he cops it. It's just a ruddy shame as he and Ryan together were dynamic. We had really found something extraordinary in that pairing. And now, besides wrecking our campaign, we may never see that combo again. I can't imagine the burden Willie is shouldering now.

Yeah...you want to tolerate a drug culture in the club again?

I've already heard rumours (from my son who clubs with some in the know) there are some doing cocaine

Every club has a large amount of players doing cocaine at some point. You would have to be very naive if you think otherwise.

There taking drugs on the odd occasion ( most players) and then there is the 2006 team getting out of control with it.

What a campaigner.

To be fair it’s reasonable to assume there would be multiple Eagles players that take illicit substances, as there are at all clubs.

The difference between a culture of drug taking like 06 and some of the players sometimes having something they shouldn’t is veeeeeeery different.

If your stance on the issue is it should be zero tolerance then fair enough, that’s a valid opinion, but let’s not be naive and pretend there aren’t a few guilty parties from every club, every season.

As pissed off as I am at Willie for doing something so so stupid, and coming right into the crucial part of the season, the fact is he may have panicked and hastily tried to cover up something as simple as a weight loss pill, a few puffs on a marijuana joint, or even drinking a can of red bull. Who knows...his tweet tells me he’s not the smartest tool in the shed.
The fact that the club is now all being called druggies again is super annoying and I feel for all the players and people who have worked hard to change our culture over many years to a club to be proud of.
But in saying that f the morons *purple cough cough* who go way overboard in bagging us before they even know what one player actually did.

Sumich is clearly bitter with an axe to grind. Not an independent, balanced opinion.

Its literally all they have
Take pity on the poor dears

Duck made a really good point..ASADA was bought in for people competing in Olympics, therefore the maximum penalty is 4 years! He suggested AFL should have it's own governing body working with ASADA...4 years is excessive
It might be excessive but in theory it should be a pretty good deterrent. If you dropped it down to 1 or 2 years I think it would lead to more people taking the risk
