It doesn't matter if some trades/draftees don't work out. But being difficult limits your options.

I would have thought the Ellis compo decision today should give Essendon pause if they want him to fulfil his contract in 2020. Especially given Ellis has been, well, playing football and Daniher has not.
Which clubs are historically easy to deal with? WC and Hawthorn. It's been a fairly successful formula.
A free agent vs a contracted player. What the hell are you on about with that comparison in the first place.
Swans first plus 2nd round pick swap or a bit player will be the deal probably. Hope he does well. Exciting player.
And you won 4 flags. Sometimes you also snag absolute blinders like Mitchell, who like Heeney, was stunted a little by too many similar types in the midfield.Yep. When we tell a players we’ll get them to us it generally happens. We tend to pay full freight in trades though.
One thing I will give Dodoro - he's managed to oversee Essendon's list management for nearly two decades of dismal failure (he had essentially nothing to do with 2000) and not only miraculously keep his job, but even get people on the internet to call him a 'master.
That is some dark magic.
This post is delightfully paradoxicalI’m not sure how this gets done. Sort of expecting this to be a stalemate and Daniher stays with Essendon.
Essendon’s key forward stocks are so slim that they just can’t afford to lose him without getting a significant haul back. Can’t see them winning a final without him with the way their list looks. I’m not sure pick 5 and pick 25 or whatever it is is a significant enough deal. Pick 5 and 9 you’d think about it.
Can’t imagine Sydney will deal two top ten picks for a guy who has played 10 games in two years and is no guarantee to get back on track. If he was coming off a season like 2017 when he kicked 60+ goals and won AA, I think they’d happily pass those picks over. Don’t see it happening after two injury riddled seasons.
Someone will probably budge, someone usually does. Going to be a long two weeks with this and the Kelly one I imagine.
welcome to the D&T boardThis post is delightfully paradoxical
The second paragraph outlines how important Joe is to the future of Essendon and we'd be mad to lose him for anything but top dollar.
The third insinuates that there's a very real possibility that Joe will never recover to his previous best and Sydney would be mad to pay top dollar.

Heeney may have a bit more flxibility/slightly different skills, but if he had developed as an onballer from day 1 at a good club hungry for mids, I reckon he'd be one of the best in the comp.
Also, I'm pretty sure that if Wingard stays fit he will return to his AA level form. Even if he doesn't, you've gotta have a crack, it's a strategy that on balance has worked wonders. I think about the crucial roles Jetta, Cripps, Yeo and even Vardy played in '18.
Houli?Notice it's the ones that have the most injury trouble leaving Essendon.

It's nice that you're looking at things from both sides, it's just odd that you were looking at both sides of two different coins to give your take.Just trying to look at it from both sides. Honestly I can’t see how a team could trade two top 10 picks for a guy with his injury record. Essendon will either take what they currently consider unders and be pi**ed off if he stays fit for the foreseeable future and gets back to his best, or he’ll continually get injured and Essendon will make out like bandits. It’s a magic beans purchase at the moment. Or obviously they could keep him.
Whichever way it ends up going it’s going to be a nightmare for all the neutrals.
Love how Geelong will be labelled good blokes doing the best for their club holding out on Kelly until the last day of trade period but Essendon will be labelled hard to deal with if a contracted Daniher doesn’t have a deal done by the end of day 1.

- in that eventuality, Essendon will back itself to put their arms around him and change his mind in 12 months. They literally just did the exact same thing with Aaron Francis. He asked to leave to SA 12 months ago. Now he just signed a new contract with Essendon.
