Yep because we are going to have to wait all week as Dodo demands Carlton’s first and 5.

As we aren’t trading Papley he will wait till last hour to confirm before agreeing to trade and the 45 subsequent deals will need to be don’t in the last hour.
Oh you're in for a bad week.

I would have thought the Ellis compo decision today should give Essendon pause if they want him to fulfil his contract in 2020. Especially given Ellis has been, well, playing football and Daniher has not.
compensation has nothing to do with how much football you play but the amount you are being paid to do so. The rumoured $1m a year would see us likely get a first rounder.

It’s a tough one as in Essendons favour he is a KPP that are rarely on the table but countering that is his injury record

A first rounder you’d think - particularly as high as 5 - is sufficient I would have thought

Thing is he is under contract. Essendon aren’t forced to deal if offer isn’t right. Look at Tim Kelly last year. Requested a trade - eagles and Geelong couldn’t agree and he remained at Geelong and played good football. Delaying the inevitable though
I'm just staggered that there's talk of 2 top 10 picks coming from their fans.

Obviously he's a vital element in the Bombers side but that's a huge price to ask.

Lol take pick 5 out and you are closer to the mark, massively lopsided Essendon way as you would expect.

And of course it's only coming from our fans.

Don’t know why we’d move on Ronke if Papley is going. I see you’ve replaced with two other smalls but I don’t really see the point of it.

Could mean something or it could just be Sam Manure putting 2 and 2 together and getting 5.
Hard one for me, will he ever get over his issues and be AA again or will he be perennially injured?
On one hand it’s frees up a ton of cap space and gets us back into the draft but geez I’d hate to get rid of him and watch him dominate

I guess 2+2 does equal 5

Don’t know why Swans want him right now, waiting a year to get him for free next year is no drama. They are in full rebuild mode and won’t make finals next year.

Daniher for 5 and 31 is fair with his injury history. 5 and 9 is way too much. Adrian Dodope will make it more difficult than it needs to be and will drag it out until the last minute of the trade period

Papley and 25 for pick 9

Swans would want to be sure about his groin. Daniher and Buddy playing 15 games between them with 2-2.3mil of salary cap on the sidelines would be a disaster and season ender.

Give us Ronke and you can have Jake Long.

He is a suped up v8 that looks a million bucks but blows a head gasket every time the ignition goes on

He’s worth more to Essendon to stay because right now his value is poor

This might not go through

Essendon hold him hoping his value goes back up and he loves his footy again.

He dominates next year and he might decide to stay on - if he doesn’t, it’s likely Essendon doesn’t do well and their compo could be top 10 regardless OR Essendon force a trade

Sydney will have to pay overs to get him, but it’ll be overs on his low value

Two top 10 picks is fanciful though

Not if we want to use some of the picks we get for him for trades he won't.
This is what makes this a fascinating thing.

IF (big if) Essendon are actually going to push for 2 x top 10 picks, then they'd be doing it to on-trade OR they'd be needing the Papley deal completed before they could actually ask for it.

So if they're wanting to on trade they'll be pushing the deal to happen sooner. If they're demanding 2 x top 10 they need a separate deal to happen sooner.
If they're demanding 2x top 10 they'll need to hold firm and not yield to the pressure of moving the deal on.

But yeah, I still think 2 x top 10 is ridiculous. Has any other player actually gone for 2 x top 10 without decent picks coming back the other way?

Not really sure but Judd was 3, Kennedy (pick 4) and 20 for Judd and 46.

I've said all along Hogan is almost the identical trade to get a valuation from.

Traded with a navicular injury for one first and one second with 65 coming back. Imo Daniher is a better player but has missed more footy.

It's going to be complicated and is a realistic chance not to be done, even though they usually are.

We have just lost $1.2M - $1.6M/year through retirements.
And the rest
Tippett was on 800k alone only comes off books this year

McVeigh
Jack
Grundy
And Smith
all easily on more than 300k each

Likely 2m+ off the books + Hanners going last year

Obviously some existing pay rises new contracts etc but we are not pushed for cap space

Pipe dream would be 5+9 for Daniher + 2020 2nd, but I can't see Swans giving up more than 5+25. Seems like many on here would agree with something around that mark?
Annoying for us, he's obviously worth more at top flight, but then we haven't had anything from him for 2 years now.

Prior to his OP, Joe was extremely durable. Played >20 games 4 seasons in a row. Swans must be confident he's getting better.

He wants to go, I'm not keen to hold him for another year. Would close off any potential FA acquisitions we might be looking at next year, as wouldn't want to impact our compo pick

Of course it is, but why would we ask for less? We hold the cards. If all Sydney want to cough up is a single 1st rounder then we may as well just keep him, as we'd get similar compensation if he decides once again to leave next year as a Free Agent.

Not quite. The compo would be after your first round pick. Depends what internal expectations are.

Depends if you view pick 5 or so to be better than the compo pick

Pick 5 (and potentially 25) >>>> pick ~13

Not to mention keeping a bloke who doesn't want to be there on $800k for inferior compensation next year doesn't exactly sound like wise list management.
