John Anthony - I'm worried.

I first started thinking about it after he got hurt in the ribs against Syndey ... the way he hunched over and cocked his arse up in the air ... I don't know.

There is of course the infamous headbutting of the crotch incident, as well as his own admission he was far more comfortable in the company of females when younger and complaing that he didn't have any boyfriends.

It'd actually be pretty cool if it happened, and he seems like the kinda guy who'd be willing to take it on.

That does not sound very gay unfortunately - but I'd love him to be out and proud plus freaky talented and aggressive.

Excuse me mate, did I ask for your evaluation of me and my phobias? I didn't post so I could be analysed - this thread is about JA.
It's not like I would change teams or dislike JA because of it... just curious thats all. And hosetly I'd find it odd, if it were to be true.
FWIW I have a gay mate so I'm not your typical beer drinking, wife-beating homophobe, I just wanted to know if it was rumor, joke or just BS. I wouldn't pick him as a gay...

Absolute nonsense, he does not know how to use his body and avoid giving free kicks away. Does it frequently, sick of bloody collingwood people excusing the weaknesses of our players and blaming umpires, massive concern ...

Nah, he doesn't. Not even in the top 100 in the AFL in free kicks against, and somewhere around 10th on our own team iirc. Try again.

If hes not giving free kicks away and clearly he doesnt always but he gave away 4 last week as I said and thats why I brang it up, hes likely making no body contact at all and getting clearly outmarked, like he was against Brian Lake ...

Dont get me wrong Ive got nothing against the bloke, Im just a harsher critic with higher expectations than many on here ....

You are harsher critic than many anywhere even those who hate our guts.

It's time to stop worrying about individuals individual performance and others career statistics and start worrying about how we are going to win the flag we could not possibly have had a chance at getting only 10 weeks ago.
The one that all these people could not possibly deliver.

yeah i get it understudy

Jack is somewhat out of form, so you are running your whatever campaign which is an awesome cover for trolling seeing as we have our coaching stuff sorted

Bravo:rolleyes:

No Understudy it's not. He has given away 16 free kicks from 17 games this season (including the 4 in the Brisbane game). Thats hardly a pattern of using his body work badly and giving away unnecesary free kicks. The Brisbane game was definitely an unusual one for Anthony in regards to giving away free kicks. Read what I said again. I said giving away free kicks wasn't a common feature of his game - the stats back this up. Your assumption that this is a weakness in his game is wrong. Isolating the one game I thought one or two of the free kick decisions were a bit rough - thats just how I saw it. I'm not in the habit of making excuses for our players by blaming the umps. Look at some of my posts after the Adelaide game in round one if you don't believe me. Your cynicism is astounding sometimes. I could count on half of one hand the amount of positive posts I have read of yours in this forum. Can't wait to see what your next misguided crusade is.

Of course Im pointing out weakness, Im seeking to improve the club ....

Jack himself has admitted his body work is a weakness because he probably has high standards, u all do him a disservice to sugar coat it and claim there is no problem here and everything is ok ...

It's an obvious weakness in his game...but I think you're exaggerating how bad it is.

Where are you getting this? Footywire has it at 16 from 17 games.

cfc has 16 as well

Yeah my bad, just edited the post. Actually had 16 originally then changed it. I was looking at the career total of 31 (which is just below the 09 stats) on footywire and mixed it up.

Hopefully its not as bad as I think it might be and im still just peeved with how absolute crap he was against brisbane. Hopefully he can improve on it ...
About half his games he hasn't given a free kick away for the entire game.....I'm pretty sure the game against Brisbane has been the only game where he has given more than 2 away in a game this year.

I'd prefer to see him trying to get away with bending the rules a bit than just giving up because he's out positioned and conceding.

Obviously taking marks or atleast getting the ball to ground is preferable to being outmarked and or bending the rules and giving free kicks away ....

Don't be peeved, Undies. If we got peeved at everyone who wasn't in top gear all the time, our lives would all be miserable. Just be sure that Jack will have been driving himself hard to make up for any falling off, and he will be back to his old rock-reliable self.

And no, Jack's not gay.

But Collingwood would be the only team with the cachet to flaunt its gay players, if it had any. Black, white and pink. :thumbsu:

Now you are changing what you said.

Your original point was that Anthony gave away unnecesary frees in marking situations - and that this was a weakness in his game. The stats prove this to be totally incorrect. Giving away frees in marking contests is not a weakness of Anthonys game.

Now you are trying to say that his body work is a weakness. This is a totally different argument. Anthony can certainly improve his body work but to say it is a weakness is also wrong IMO. He needs to learn when to lead and when to use his body. And on some occasions do better in body on body marking contests. However I have also seen some really clever tap and knock ons in really tight contested situations that have lead to opportunities for our small forwards. Of course he needs to work on aspects of his game including body work (duh, he is playing his first full season as a full forward) but to make it out like it is a glaring weakness in his game is incorrect.

Try again.

Thing is, he was taking the marks, but getting pinged for the free kick.

I'd rather see him doing this instead of giving up the contest.

It's a problem that probably stems from being out of position in the first place. He has plenty of improvement left as a forward.

The more mistakes you make, the more you learn.

I also predict him to be the first AFL player to be openly homosexual while still playing. The influence of J.A. will reverberate throughout the league both on and off field for years to come.

I would genuinely love for this to happen. I can see him as a gay icon.

What is it about him that sets off your Gaydar?

I hope you guys are just ASSuming that JA is gay? I feel a little wierd about having a gay guy on the team lol.
But seriously?... Please tell me it's a joke. NOW.

Well this has definitely backfired on MDC! Are you guys still bed-buddies? :p
