MVP John Cahill Medal 2011

FFS guys cant we celebrate the JC medal without the normal bullshit on this board? In one way or another Boak and Trengove (in my opinion) thoroughly deserve their accolate. I cant think of anyone other than Boak who should have won it, and Trengove was no slouch either.

Boak is a gun an is rightly rewarded.

Anyway, Macca, if you do a count-back of your votes, who did you think came out on top?

Schocked that Gray didn't win it to be honest.

Well bloody done to Jackson and Boaky though. Both of them were very consistent over the year, and both of them had a couple of brilliant games.

This confuses me.

“Travis took his game to a new, more consistent level this season,” Primus said.

What.

His stats have stagnated if not gone backwards. If that's a new level, he's lost it.

Lucky for us the panel didn't award the medal on stats. If it did, Kane would have won it every single year he played.

A tie in a shocking year is a little awkward and a winning tally of 13 is quite frankly embarrassing. If they hadn't have changed the voting system neither would have happened but obviously they didn't think our slim pickings of assistants were capable of voting of their own accord. Let's get this season over with.

Congrats to the winners

As good a player as ive seen at Port Adelaide. Wonderful kick and a big game player.

That's a bit OTT Macca

You've seen Hodges, Leslie, Phillips, Buckley, Wanganeen & Abernethy at Port, maybe even Bradley & Evans?

Stephen was a bloody good player for Port, but not up to those guys.

I'd rank him with Fiacchi, Delaney, Johnston, Smith x 2, Borlase, Brown, Tregenza & Hynes, off the top of my head.

Best I've seen, goes without saying, Russell Ebert.

I wish I saw Bob Quinn play.

Thought Logan was our clear stand out for the first half of the year. Surprised that didn't give him enough to win it considering that no one really played at a consistent level all year.

In a crap year, it doesn't seem like anyone should be happy with their form, but congrats to Travis and Jackson.

I wont say who won the bf voting but the votes i gave i had gray 1st, boak 2nd 12 votes behind gray and trengove 3rd 2 votes behind boak.

Trengove is a funny one because i think some overrate and some underrate his year. He was our clear best defender imo and our most consistent tall by a mile. Well deserved winner. Cant wait to see the breakdown of the voting though.

I have to say I like the new system, or at least how it has been implemented. The coaches have set a standard and it is up to the players to reach it, votes won't be given out "just because", they are now as rare as hen's teeth.

Schulz was the only person to poll a 3 vote game (for his 8 goals against the Lions), the maximum possible is 4 votes.

So it shows that a) the coaches correctly didn't rate many of our players as having standout performances and b) psychologically, it provides incentives to have absolutely ball-tearing games (other than the obvious personal/team pride reasons.) If you could nab a 4 and 3 voter in one season you are well on the way to winning the award, as opposed to just being solid more often than not.

With this system, Primus and the coaches have clearly stated that the players need to step up if they wish to be recognised as great players competition-wide.

It really depends on the instructions players got before the game and how they performed according to these instructions, plus anything over and above.
Trengove has had a good year and along with Schulz has been our best tall. Westhoff was great before he got injured however I am not sure if he was great at the over and above stuff but average at the bread and butter stuff (instructions).
Trengove did well in the backline and was our best backup ruckman before Lobbe got in the team, plus he single headedly changed the first Showdown.

Boak has taken his game to a new level, stats are only good for supercoach competitions or whatever they are called.
In the past he was easy to shut down in some games and completely disappeared. This year he has been able to contribute in all games and sometimes at a very very high level.

Congratulations to both, well deserved. :thumbsu:

What about the NT hey?:thumbsu: :thumbsu:
First Cadel and now Logan.

I like that we didn't give out any votes for the Hawthorn game...

Didn't realise he was Tasmanian :)

I was a bit surprised that Westhoff even polled one vote. I'm not too fussed with the winners. Gray was perhaps slightly more deserving but Trengove and Boak were definitely up there.

Are you serious? Yeah he had quite a few bad games, but he had a number of good games as well, a couple of bags of 4, an excellent game in the 1st Showdown, to suggest he shouldn't have got any votes is ridiculous.

Then you're an idiot and exactly the type of annoying supporter who blindly hates on their whipping boy no matter what they do.

I was expecting Westhoff to be leading the half way point, was one of the most consistent in the first half of the year until he got injured i believe

Then you're the type of annoying supporter who picks a whipping boy and bags him no matter what he does, which is exactly the type of supporter who steps beyond the bounds of justified criticism and does more harm than good. You don't think his 4 goals against the reigning premiers, his Showdown medal winning performance against the Crows or his match-winning and spoon-saving last quarter against Melbourne was worth a B&F vote?

Thank god Kane somehow didn't win it this year, after he fluked it the last couple of times, I didn't put it past Port ****ing up the votes and him winning (fluking) it again.

Anyway, well done Boaky. Clearly the standout this season as well as Robbie. Surprised about Trengove, but good on him as well. Gray should of been higher then 4th imo, no clue how that worked out

Both Boak and Jackson had decent years, not great years though. With all this talk of 'developing' footballers its a huge worry that Boak has not improved at all from last year.

Well said, might consider making the first sentence my footer.
