Have any of the other mid-season draft guys from last year been nearly as good as him? I think he was, naturally, a bit out of his depth as he was thrown in the deep end when he first got here. But with an AFL preseason under his belt and some genuine experience he's come on great.

It's a big tick to our recruiters on this one. 6 of the 13 players selected in that draft have already been delisted, a further 2 haven't even played a game yet.

Two clubs higher up the order than us passed rather than select anyone (Hawthorn and Adelaide - who clearly didn't need any bolstering of their amazing lists).

Only Noble, Pickett, Snelling and Gardner have managed to get regular games and I'd comfortably pick Noble in front of the other 3 at this stage of their careers.

Absolute keeper this bloke.
Very clever getting way back off the mark for his kick.
Ump calls play on and it takes another second or two off the clock before he kicks it.
he just does the basic things well, nothing flashy but very neat with disposal. and seems to get the balance between attack and defence.

These are the types of success stories, guys that have come through the hard way and had a real crack. I love the stories of both Noble and Checkers. Pickett is the one that has overcome most and at such a late stage of his career. It makes this channel into the competition a little more real for those out there that may have been missed or developed later than others.

I didn't hold out much hope for either of our guys early, thought they were cheap depth if we ever got desperate, It is great to see that this is a real opportunity for Clubs and also those out there demanding opportunity.

How crazy is this? Some things are meant to be.

Instead, there waiting to welcome the dashing defender to the Pies on his very first day was someone who would quickly become his partner in crime in the team's backline. But also, someone who he actually knew quite well.

Brayden Maynard had been one of Noble's good friends in primary school, where they both attended Our Lady of Grace in Glengowrie, South Australia. They had always got along, always played footy together at breaks, and probably always would've been friends. That was until Maynard relocated to Victoria for family reasons.

"It was funny, because we hadn't actually seen each other for such a long time," Noble told AFL.com.au.

"It was almost like a reunion after that long. We've spoken a few times about the good old days at OLOG and a couple of mates we both know and the people we still know. It's always a good laugh."

Massive improvement this year. Was unsure about him last year, given he's quite small and looked to be overwhelmed a bit. But with a pre-season under his belt he's made huge strides. Still leaves some to be desired, but a 23 year-old with 22 games played finishing in our B&F top 10? I'll take it!
