Oh you're one of those guys, who clearly knows what's best for skinny 200cm players.
No, I've never made a comment on a skinny 200cm player before

Hang on, are you also going to explain to Blackas87 why it might be stupid to play an 85kg, 200cm teenager in the AFL?

Melbourne fans get their own bad name.

Oh no, not a bad name amonst MotleyLemon from BigFooty! After all the horrible stuff that happened to us these past 7 years, this is the icing on the cake! the Horror!

So much positive things happening at Melbourne, I can't understand why people are still getting stuck into them.
Hogan will be a gun.
Roos will change everything for the good.

time to give Melbourne fans a bit of a break.

Don't bait other posters, please.

Attacking posts based on the supported team of the author, rather than the content, is especially not on.

Thanks.
It's a bit rich of you to threaten bans when your club is up to their ears in ASADA stuff!

Sickest burn since the GC fan correct someone's grammar a few posts back.

...I'll allow it, just this once. ;)

It wasn't any Melbourne fan who was the main offender there though, by the way. The one in question has a little holiday from this thread.

Funny that, Daniher out performed McBean at AFL level:p

When McBean learns how to mark a footy we will talk.

Hogan
15 games
63 marks
36 contested marks

Daniher
12 games
85 marks
35 contested marks

Mcbean
14 games
59 marks
14 contested

clearly anyone who watched the VFL games this season could see Daniher and Hogan often being doubled and tripled teamed.
hence why Daniher and Hogan had to take so many contested marks.

Each player - all being good players - plays to their strength.
Hogan likes to double back and find body, hence the higher % of contested marks; the contested mark is his schtick. He's a contested marking beast, and Casey's #1 target.
Daniher uses his height to mark the ball at the highest point in his jump, and times it beautifully. Not too many, particularly in the VFL can go with him. He was also, after spending a preseason and nearly a year at the club on a strength and conditioning program, the #1 target going forward for the VFL bombers.
McBean uses his speed and agility to take the majority of his marks on the lead, therefore his contested marking % is lower. Still takes a lot of marks, mind you, some off his toes. A neat trick at 203cm. Given that he had to work into the season and improve his fitness on the fly, and was for the majority of the season playing second fiddle to A.Edwards, I'd certainly say he has shown enough to compare favourably to the other players mentioned.
To say he slipped to pick 34 for a reason is simplistic at best.
Pick 79, 1990 National draft ring any bells?

I'm just telling you people, its Hogan.

He has the swagger. The superstar look. The look not seen since the great one. The almighty Wayne Carey.

without getting into this ridiculous thread about who will be better after 5 games, lets talk about hogan. he's an underage kid that played in the vfl as a key forward and was above average. that is unbelievable for an underage mid let alone a key forward! there is no doubting that he will be a sensational player, and he will start as a 2nd forward behind clarke which will make him more impressive. i don't care who you barrack for, he's bloody exciting!! the other beauty of him is that he'll attract dees supporters to come tto he games which they desperately need.

Pretty sure they said Trengove and scully would be guns

and watts would be a gun

and all the other 20 first round picks they've had over the past 5 years, have any of them actually become guns? You could say frawley but his 2013 was woeful so... not really

If you can't develop players it doesn't matter how good they are at junior levels

Well people continue to sink the boot in because the Demons essentially haven't done shit yet until all these "positive things" turn into actual results.

I agree, development means a hell of a lot, something Paul Roo's is very good at.
So you know player development has a huge impact on the players career, out of Daniher, Hogan Boyd & Patton, what order would you rank them?

Probably 1: Hogan
2: Danniher
3: Boyd
4: Patton

really hard to say as boyd and hogan haven't been exposed to AFL footy yet, patton's knees easily drop him till last.

All 4 have top 5 in the AFL potential but 3/4 of them won't make it, Patton probably because of his knees, hogan because of melbournes lack of ability to develop players danniher and boyd it remains to be see what they will become.

Sounds like a number 1 draft pick.

Those guys can never turn shit right...right?

Of course, anything is possible, especially at Melbourne (except good things :( )

With Hogan though, has any top draftee played as well in the secondary competition before? He won Casey's B&F, a good VFL team, and was taking the best defenders every week. Of course his only real comparison is with South Australian and West Australian players, as they get to play in the top league, unlike the TAC cup.

Cameron well ahead of the others mentioned. Can do it all: get away on a fast lead, take a monster contested mark, crumb like a small and accurate off a set shot. All while routinely double teamed and with poor service coming in.

Of the others I think only Hogan is a chance of kicking 50+ in his 2nd year.
