I like the sentiment Snuff, but not sure all clubs share this view. Fages would be right with you along with many others I imagine, but hard arse and/or desparate clubs can, will and do turn a blind eye to a 'players preference' if it will disadvantage them too much. You raise a good point. If I'm understanding you correctly, I agree, there should be more emphasis on players wishes, but I don't think its in vogue right now and may never come to fruition universally.

An example where we played hard ball, and payed off big time, was the Weller trade. Lyon folded his arms and went something like 'nup, give us pick 2 or forget it'. I thought it was both galling and genius. We ended up with Brayshaw for Weller. If that was Ross Lyon who made that call, then he deserves a LOT of credit, IMO.

So I think the 'players needs as #1' is always going to be on a case by case basis for any club.

I hope I understood your post properly after all that, he he.

I actually agree with you some clubs ( & supporters) will never get it. Took MFC close to 50 years, but that's life. MFC had to learn the hard way from clubs like Hawthorn & Richmond.

Snuff just does NOT understand the difference between contracted and uncontracted. Never let the players you want to keep hit "OOC" status. Good clubs hold their good players - poor clubs can please themselves.

Cerra wont be at Freo next year (deep I know) - Carlton will pay fair price and a bit more, without losing a 2nd rounder. At the moment they have 6, 25, 61 & SPS worth no more than a player exchange (he is OOC) Carlton have to take picks to this draft 2 min probably more like 3 ... they will want them all inside 50.

Ummm it is one 2nd rounder. The other you talk of is a swap of our pick 32 for freos pick 27. U know... a 5 spot upgrade. ;)

Smart of Cats to get Clark on the table this year while still contracted - picks 25 & 27 with 32 going back values him around 20 which seems reasonable for him being contracted and Freo having a 4 year deal on the table.

But as always some FREO bigfooty fans want Cerra (OOC) sold for top $$$ plus Clark (UC) bought for bottom $$$ minus.

Agreed..its slightly in geelongs favour but if they are planning to keep clark otherwise its not crazy.
Slightly? You get the equivalent of pick 20 for a player not rated enough internally to be given constant game time. I would think Geelong make out like bandits in that deal. If I'm Freo I'm not budging on pick 27 for Clark. Hasn't shown anywhere near enough for a mid 20's pick and a 5 pick upgrade, his contract can't magically make him twice as valuable as he is now.

Your too nice for DTFA board mate. I was just having some with Glek, who seems to have suddenly flipped on things he's said previously now he's dropped the act a bit. I wasnt being serious.

Glek's trade suggestion while I think is overs is along the lines of what I've posted already. I think we'll keep one of 25 or 27 and give up a future 2nd as a result but I think he's close

Hes not unrated at geelong hes been injured and will play a lot next year if he stays.

Fair enough is your view but i think we wont trade him for 27 alone its not worth it to us.

Not flipped one bit. You are just making yourself look like a one-town one-club boy. Cerra is OC - get him to the club of his choice, Carlton.

Clark is contracted - pretty basic stuff really. Its not Blues fault Cerra wants to leave, its not Cats obligation to giveaway contracted players.

Learn to prioritise your players - duh and they wont want to leave. Take it to the bank - Jackson, Pickett, Rivers contracts on the way .... will be timed to be announced when best suits MFC marketing department regarding memberships sales.

That sounds like the same thing he was told this time last year, too.

And he would have if he hadnt been injured and then no vfl so i think we will back that in.

So all we had to do was offer Cerra an extended contract last year.

Dammit list managers working through the contract extensions in alphabetical order and then the Christmas break.

Freo List Management Team

Brayshaw …...contract extension done 2025
Caleb ….done ...2023
Cer.....is that the time - Christmas Break!!!!

<Intermission>

Wow great holiday now where were we? Ummmmm up to D I think.

>Shall I check?

Ummm No what are we Melbourne?

D, D ahhhh here we are Darcy ...done ...2024

I'm really worried that Clark is going to alphabetically suffer the same fate ...that must be why we are cleverly offering 4 years to avoid this happening again.

Onya Snuff. Yeah, I'm not too quick on the uptake sometimes, he he.

Well, if the guy can provide some speed and outside run, get him in purple quick. Re trade worth, pfft, I'll let the cobblers do the cobbling (couldnt help myself).

I guess Freo putting a 4 year (750k per year) contract in front of Cerra at the commencement of the 2021 season is not prioritising our player. I learn something everyday on bigfooty!

hahah - fat lot of good that did you. Duh you should have started talks long before the start of season 2021. Sure dont need to announce it if he signs.

Dockers gambled and lost - such is life.

Pretty basic stuff really - if he wont sign ..... Fine take the gamble but you lost, he wants to leave.

Freo think we have 1 rule for Freo supporters & 1 rule for every other club. The pressure is off the Blues - now over to Freo to get the deal done - player has nominated. Get your OOC to where he wants to go for less money than you where prepared to pay.

It’s funny how all your sunshine and rainbows seem to end up with Freo getting ****ed in the ass

Sure to be liked by all the Freo posters - but its your club only you can do something about it.

My suggestion watch what Hawthorn did, watch what Richmond did. Take what they did and just do it a tad better.

PS keep an eye on GWS think they are onto something. Treat all your players past and present with respect - your players are the only people that can effect the scoreboard.

Instead of just talking the talk, Freo literally put our money where our mouth is - can't do more than that. As a 21 year member of Freo I am not critical of the club on this occasion - I have certainly been critical on multiple other occasions. You have spewed such pearls of wisdom over the last couple of days about how our club should act. Can I respectfully suggest you instead bask in your premiership glory - it has been over 50 years in the making.

Back to Clark, I think we are trading on potential - that carries risk and our trade price should reflect this. If Geelong aren't satisfied with the offer, they should rightfully hold Clark to his contract.
