Not really the point of the article but I wonder what happens with those news crews. Not enough time to fly any news crews out from Australia to film that, so what happens, does someone like channel 7 pay an American news crew to film him leaving the courthouse?

According to the better half, who spent 30 years in TV production, there are affiliations between most major TV broadcast outlets around the World.
So when a foreign 'public identity' is involved in a incident the local broadcaster will cover the story and then provide this to their affiliate's abroad, Australia's Ch7/9, ABC etc.
Related commercial arrangements are rare - usually only for high profile cases and/or when the public identity is also well known locally (an Aussie Hollywood movie star etc.) - whereby future reciprocation is expected if a US/UK sports star gets into similar trouble in Australia.

And the fact this goose DeGoey is only known to 0.00000001% of the World, means there is zero value/interest in the 'sale' of his story. Further media coverage, if desired/required by Australian broadcasters, is then usually covered by our foreign correspondents...

Just want to acknowledge that I'd let the boozing and off season substance use slide, we'd be sacking half the league if that was the issue.

Boozing is not an issue in the off-season, and has never been a sackable offence. Given the Covid restrictions, players are probably encouraged to let their hair down within reason, provided they come back to preseason training in reasonable shape.

But in the case of De Goey, alcohol and other substances are an obvious issue. It's not unfair for Collingwood to mandate that he's dry and clean all year round, or he can find another career.

Personally any man that sexually assaults a woman is a coward and deserves every bit of punishment. Blokes a dead set dropkick, obviously has priors from the incident in Kew a few years back. You'd honestly probably not even want him as a teammate after that, how can you look somebody in the eye knowing they're a dropkick and a piece of filth and play professional sports with them?

boozing and substance use is one thing.

sexual and physical assault is an entirely different beast. i wouldnt have the slightest issue if every player found guilty of these kinds of things (starting an assault obviously, not if they or a friend were attacked and it was defense) was cut loose.

I've seen people online defending the piece of filth because it was only a minor incident, sexual assault is sexual assault. Any man that lays hands on another woman without consent is arguably the lowest form of life.
