It's very much under dispute.
Bolton used this as a cover story and it turns out it was a lie .
Hence he got a massive fine.
There is absolutely zero evidence of anything happening to any female at all.
The only one who said that was Bolton which was a BS cover story
That’s not true at all
It was Rioli’s partner and multiple witnesses came forward about the incident

Surely he's done as an AFL player now. Last thing Collingwood need right now. Should have cashed him in at the trade table a season or so ago when he had some currency.

Has to be.

I don't think anyone seriously thinks he can continue to play AFL now. Is a shit human, and he is absolutely EMBARRASSING club, game and country here -he's ****ed.

The AFL won't just suspend De Goey, they will deregister him and he will forfeit the final year of his contract (which is good news for Collingwood)
Helps out their cap problems...

Whether Collingwood or the AFL, they'll stand him down - 100%. He's not playing in 2022.

Whether or not he gets paid I suspect will be based on if he's ultimately found guilty.

Get real.

He’ll cop a fine from the yanks and a community service order….if it holds up in court that is….

If convicted, the AFL will give him the year off like they did quietly to Elijah Taylor - then he’ll either be back at Collingwood on a new (much lower) deal or (more likely) he’ll join one of the other Vic clubs as a delisted free agent for 2023 in the feel-good redemption story of the summer.

Carey didnt end up getting much for his USA assault case, so De Goey might also escape a serious penalty

50 hours Community service and counselling

and then a (likely) well-paid career in the media ...

Does anyone know what sort of punishments De-Goey could get for his crimes?

I mean on its own even assault can see a person avoid prison time, but you would think the sexual assault would lead to prison time.

In this case the assault charges are much more serious than the sexual assault ones. It's basically the lowest sexual assault charge that could be levelled at him but if word is correct that with the bashing he and his mate were kicking a guy already on the ground he could get prison time for that.

A guy I have worked with (not a friend) with a friend got into a fight with a guy outside a perth nightclub and ended up kicking him multiple times once he was on the ground and got 2 years prison time. The ****ed up thing due to his contacts is that once he got out he got employed to a high paying job that only escalated into further promotions and more money, because of influence and cash his crimes apart from the prison time had no effect on him. Someone less fortunate and it ends up being a major factor on getting any employment at all. The guy who got attacked had some very serious injuries though so i'd say a lot will come down to how injured the 37 year old bloke is.

If he spends so time behind bars in The US, even just for a week, it's game over for JDG, especially if his alleged victims are going to testify as well as dozens of witnesses.

He is some real serious ****

Ironically he also does look pretty fit, so maybe the training was legit too!

Trimmed down, which is consistent with the endurance training he's doing, but he still looks a little bit puffy to me.

Which clubs are going to be lining up to take him?

He hasn’t reached any great heights as a player and now has a long-standing history of shady behaviour which have embarrassed both himself and the Collingwood FC.

I can’t imagine the kind of condition he will be in with a year out of the game either, especially knowing clubs just aren’t going to be interested in attaining him.

If he’s found guilty I reckon his career is done.

Not really the point of the article but I wonder what happens with those news crews. Not enough time to fly any news crews out from Australia to film that, so what happens, does someone like channel 7 pay an American news crew to film him leaving the courthouse?

De Goey has his own commercial arrangements that were either valid or an excuse to get overseas to promote. Ironically he also does look pretty fit, so maybe the training was legit too!

Plus what right does the club really have to dictate what players do on their holidays?

Especially if you're saying 'stay in Victoria' then you're also condemning someone to either more lockdown or 2 weeks quarantine to get interstate. Neither are ideal for a players fitness or mental preparation.

The reality is if he stayed in Melbourne he might've been caught breaking lockdown and/or drink driving again. These charges are more serious than that but the point is I guy who stuffs up a lot is going to stuff up if he wants to, whether that's at home or away.
That’s all fair and good if he wasn’t a shit truck.

Given he refused medical treatment and his injuries have been described as "pain and swelling" I suspect the severity of the injury won't have a huge bearing on the case.

If he keeps his nose clean for a year and stays in shape, someone will take the punt.

He won’t do any time - if he is found guilty that is.

Bit of water under the bridge on this one just yet.

I think we can probably rule out 2021 and Collingwood, if found guilty, but I think suggesting he’ll never play AFL again is a bit of a stretch.

Think club imposed 4 game suspension.

Probably about all

Yes, basically.

Pay them back in shark attack stories and Bushfire footage.

if there any video footage of him kicking the guy on the ground, you would think jail time is coming.
If there no footage it up to what witnesses saw and what the 37 year old male says. The male apparently refused medical attention and sounds like they all intoxicated so sometimes people intoxicated are not fully aware of how hurt they are soon after.

I'd be surprised if there no cctv footage or just random footage of other witnesses phones around where it happened.

The problem is putting yourself in a position to knowingly, willingingly and encouragingly be filmed doing it.

Granted not been filmed doing drugs but when you're overseas for "rehabilitation", at a time when your character is in question, after a season your team finished 17th, and has been embroiled in a host of cultural issues, allowing someone to film you shirtless overseas clearly drunk puts his character seriously in question. That's aside from the fact he's been charged with assault of a woman, after having previously been accused of similar crimes.

The guy isn't a professional. If the club had a spine he should never play for Collingwood again.
Agree, he's an idiot and has stuffed up bad.

Just want to acknowledge that I'd let the boozing and off season substance use slide, we'd be sacking half the league if that was the issue.
