One criticism I have of De Goey is probably his movement when leading.. he's ballistic when he has the pill and puts seperation between himself and his opponent.. yet on the lead he'd always got someone spoiling him.. either that.. or he just waits for someone to drop it on his head.

I would still play him up front.. Davis is gonna cause headaches for Cox and Mihocek.. which pretty much leaves us with the swoop squad to do the trick.

And we need more goals from our midfield.

Depends where he's playing, and if forward, delivery dependant.

Stephenson WHE Cox Thomas and JDG all had poor games v Eagles. I'd put it down to good defensive opposition that stifled midfield delivery and gave their defenders every chance. It wasnt as if DeGoey was the only player to had a down game.

he's deceptively quick, when he leads at the ball not many stay with him

This!!

Ive always been a fan of JDG but the player I likened him to initially was Jack Ziebell. I thought JDG would be a quality big bodied inside mid with nice skills. But never in my wildest dreams did I see him as a match winner full of X factor. When did he become so quick? So explosive?

When CFC2010 likened him to ricciuto, I thought he was on the money. But his pace, power and agility seem to have improved so much that I'm going out on a limb and likening him to Gary Ablett Snr. The full forward version who kept his feet and worked his opponent under the ball rather than flying for speckies. I reckon Degoey he will win Coleman Medals.

He could easily be a 60 goal forward.

I still stand by my Ricciuto comparison..........GA Snr could take a specky just quietly JDG can’t.

He will be unstoppable on ball also IMO........beast.

I think you're jumping the gun lol. You're comparing a young player that has shown a lot of potential with arguably the greatest player of all time in Gary Ablett Snr and an 8 time record breaking All Australian and brownlow medalist in Ricciuto.

Just ease up a bit.

Abletts specky years were his flanker years. In his big years as a full forward, he'd changed his style, kept his feet and bodied his opponent, in a similar way to Degoey is attempting and learning to do.

It's finals time. Let the imagination flow. The realists have 5 months of preseason to be dominant.

That's true, its prelim final week let's soak it in. If Jordy can have a Gary like or Ricciuto like game on Friday we win, let's hope he can show those tiger mongrels what he's made of.

I want him playing exactly the 2017 Dustin Martin role and not just parked inside forward 50 the entire game.

De Goey regularly beats his opponent inside 50 against full time defenders, and he will do it even more frequently if he's against a midfielder by draggint them with him.

Imagine De Goey one out in the forward line with someone like Prestia/Graham following him... He will win that battle 99 times out of 100.

De Goey on Grimes however I almost feel like its 40-60

So much this.

I think he should be thrown into the centre bounce every time the opposition midfield gets a run on and our forward 50 entries are being limited. He's a monster in the centre and I think we missed a trick by not doing it the fourth against WCE. Maybe his foot injury is limiting his midfield time?

His first three quarters in the midfield against the Dees before he was rested forward in the last, were probably the best three quarters of any Collingwood player this year. He completely torched their midfield and was best on by a street, despite not touching it in the fourth. So powerful and dynamic and his centre square craft is elite.

We need two of him!

I have always thought De Goey was a bit of a Dustin Martin clone but the other comparison I heard this week was Steve Johnson.

Not sure which is the better comparison.

However De Goey will end up forging his own reputation and is a gun.

with us likely to miss out on lynch I personally see this as an Oppurtunity. whilst it would be great to see Dagoey flourish as a midfielder for mine he is a natural forward. i'd like too see him almost play as a permanent full forward. and the occasional burst in the centre to release the shackles. he is basically Carey's height. he is good enough to kick 70+ goals in a season.

we have the money for lynch so use that money on May and then any surplus which should be circa 1 million based on what we offered lynch and make a pitch to Gaff. which then places him in the centre instead of the longer term touted Dagoey.

Said from his second year that he'd be our version of Dustin Martin. Was called crazy back then and that he'd never be that good.

WELL WHO'S LAUGHING NOW?

But yeah, the Gary Ablett Sr. comparisons are pretty apt too in terms of how he moves/plays. Similar build even. Never thought about that. Even the Stevie J one is pretty good. Although I think he'll eventually be better than Stevie J.

Eh ppl should probably settle on the comparisons, the boy is still a few years away from peaking how bout we decide then

He looks close to his peak now, don't you think?

Naa I think he’ll shed a few kilos and become a perm midfielder once Pendles is done, thats when i think he will be one of the best in the comp, if DeGoey can stay injury free and get even quicker then look out
