No. Actually listen to speech. Bassat is incensed that teams like Brisbane get to skip the queue after winning a premiership to get the best player in the draft at only 80% of the price instead of paying a premium to jump said queue.

Lol, he was born in SA. He may have grown up in Melbourne but he's not from there.
His family's mostly all in Perth also + he was a Port supporter.
Next to zero chance he moves to Melbourne when most of his family's in Perth.
Then clubs would just manipulate every deal to guarantee band 1 for the side losing the player, carn't win either way

The short of it is, plenty of teams have benefited from free agency. Don't like it? Let's go back to trades being the only way players can move between clubs.
If the AFL has any integrity at all Bassats speech at the BF should not even be considered in the compensation

Read between the lines. They knew they weren’t getting band 1 and agitated the AFL to perform their secret herbs and spices to get an effective priority pick compo. Fred Bassats speech was transparent.
It doesn’t bother me bc we are getting some nice rorts this year but other clubs who are actually rebuilding are probs mad.

Well that is definitely a win for the Saints. Battle is a handy player, but not a star.
To get a top ten pick for him us a very good outcome.
Hawks clearly have the cap space and get a good player for nothing so they have done well also.
