There is some criticism of Dodoro, but the defence of his trading this year and last is strident, and it's not one or two isolated examples.

Again, refer previous comments about Dodoro not valuing his own deal as enough.
There is pleeenty of criticism for Dodoro regarding Daniher. Many believed we should have traded Daniher last year instead of holding onto him. Plenty of criticism for the Shiel trade. Most Essendon fans also believed he unnecessarily made the Fantasia trade complicated.

I don’t have any problems with his conduct regarding the Dunkley trade though except for the length it took to come up with his offer. The final offer of pick 8 and a future second is more than enough. The 3-way trade for Treloar and Dunkley was also enough. Bulldogs just weren’t interested which is fair enough.

You’re misinterpreting Dodoro’s statement. Saying he wouldn’t do the deal if he was Bulldogs doesn’t mean he believes that’s what Dunkley is worth. It means he understands why Bulldogs didn’t trade Dunkley and would do the same for a player like him. A classic case of a player being worth more to a club than the open market considering Dunkley only has 3 quarters of one season last year to even justify a first rounder. There’s a reason why we targeted Dunkley over an Oliver type because he should realistically be cheaper than Oliver. Someone that’s pushed out of the midfield loses value.

Don’t think Dodoro or anyone expected the price to be 2 top 10 picks, which is what a contracted Oliver costs. We offered as high as we could and moved on from it. No issues there. All of Essendon, Bulldogs and Dunkley parted in an amicable way.

Key word is tried .. Daniher last year, Saad so far this year. Those are just recent examples.

Dodo exists to be the centre of attention of the trade period and he will most certainly offer something putrid and stick to it for days and drag it out. That is how he operates which is why noone wants to deal with him.

Please point to a team and group of supporters who cannot wait to deal with him ... as soon as it was announced Caldwell wanted a trade to Essendon the GWS supporters groaned

1) so there is no history of Essendon ripping clubs off? Great then what are you talking about? I actually cannot think of one. Maybe stringer at the time we got for unders because doggies didn’t take the first offer. That’d be fair to say.
2) Trade week hasn’t even begun and Essendon are unreasonable with Saad? Has Carlton even made an offer? Jebus that’s just a carlton leak. It’s also unreasonable to have a psd thread before negotiations start as Carlton/saads manager did. It’s just the first meeting doesn’t mean a thing.

3) Fact check: every list manager “tries” to get the most for themself.

4) If a group of oppositions supporters look forward to dealing with your list manager. Fire them immediately :)

I get that in the sheed era essendon were crazy to trade with. I even get that Dodoro when he asks for like billing’s the the carslile trade that made saints supporters go crazy. But who cares it’s the first meeting.

Your only unreasonable if you don’t get deals done. In this thread you can see doggies supporters wanting merret and a first. That is fine it’s a starting point if that’s where dogs held it at I would say that’s unreasonable.

just like if Essendon said pick 16 only.

No need to worry anyway mate we ain’t getting dunks. If we do you’ll come out of it with a war chest to make a better list overall and cap space for a free agent next year.

We dont want to use more draft picks ... we need players not more kids, we are already one of the youngest lists

No reason why you couldn't turn say pick 6 into future pick/s. Then you could still trade them this year if a target presents itself, or worst case you have plenty of assets to target players next year where draft picks will be more valuable given the strength of the draft crop.

Every time we've chased Luke Parker and Ollie Wines, they've knocked it back fairly quickly.

Luke Parker even went on instagram and declared he'd stay at Sydney. It's more of an observation rather than an insinuation.
He could come out and say he isn't going anywhere on Monday. Until then, it's open for speculation.
He is on holidays

Then we are one player down with no Dunkley or replacement for the 2021 season. The window is now, and while it may be open for some time yet, we cannot throw away the best years of Bont, Macrae, Libba etc.

We could look to get future 1sts in for Saad or Daniher.
Or get Pick 7 as FA comp (ideally) and move that into next years draft
Or if we're sitting on 6, 7 & 8 this year, we don't feel so bad trading next years 1st.

I reckon if Dunkley asks for the trade, the dogs & dons will sit down and thrash it out.
Once we have Daniher & Saad out the way, i imagine we'll have a bit to work with should all parties decide to pursue the move
Dodo does not sit down and thrash things out

Yep.

They thought "what do we need?".
Answer: " A big bodied inside mid".

"Which big bodied mid is not getting midfield time that we could potentially poach?"
Answer: "Dunkley. Fell behind Libba and an up and coming Smith in the midfield rotation."

"How can we entice him?"
"Big contract + midfield security".

"How can we find out what Bulldogs want?"
Answer: "By signalling our interest to see if Dunkley requests a trade and listening to Bulldogs' demands"

"Ok let's do this."

Sounds pretty good to me.
And therein lies your problems

100%. Dodoro and Pickering will have conditioned Dunkley/Bulldogs that a trade will likely take place if/when it gets officially announced. It is clearly on the cards but a wait and see type scenario. Plenty to play out before this trade goes ahead.
LOL let’s condition Dodo that he is an idiot

Clubs that try to poach contracted A grade players with massive offers have to pony up.

True, but in all honesty, there would only be about 5 players (max) in the league right now worth 2 top ten picks (in my opinion)

And no, Josh Dunkley is not an A grade player, not by any stretch.

Because of the NGA situation that Western Bulldogs has you would think that they will ask for Essendon's 2021 First Round pick and maybe some picks for points and something 2021 going back to Essendon 2nd Rounder maybe.

You have no clue.

Dunkley would be Carlton's best midfielder by a mile.

so rating a 23yo member of the leadership group at about a first rounder?

You use first rounders in the hope of drafting someone like Dunkley, this is nonsense

Didn't Dunkley make the AA squad of 40 in 2019? He's an top tier midfielder.

No doubt the 2021 first, which is likely to be quite high, but I doubt anything goes back Essendon's way. They want a contracted player they will need to pay up big time to get him trade-wise - and there are complications with EFC needing to have picks this year and the Doggies not wanting them this year. Too hard basket IMO, not sure who is running the Crazy Vossy show down there.

Read it all - I said picks for points for Ugle-Hagen that might mean a 2nd and a 3rd Round choice too.

yeah and with a second going back their way makes it roughly a first rounder and some pocket change. I don't think that's a good deal unless we're expecting Essendon to contend for the spoon which might be wishful thinking
