Whether Abbott is popular is irrelevant to whether the alternative is worse. The unpopularity of the Labor government can be attributed to their performance. Abbott hasn't run the country so you can say the alternative is worse just because people don't like him.

So she broke her promise to enable her party to form government? Big deal! Our heads would be spinning at how quick Abbott would have dumped/changed policies to get into power. Remember, this is the man who will beg, do and say anything to get into power.

It was 1 Green & 5 independents (includes Tony Crook from WA) they had to negotiate with.

One, it's not actually a tax - It's a removal of a long standing subsidy -
Two, if Labor won the election outright without a hung parliament, Julia wouldn't have had to bring in the carbon price -

You call the board morons and then fall for this deception. Howard went to the election with the GST as a policy and won. Big difference, if Julia went to the next election with the carbon tax as policy then no one would begrudge her for it.
Anyway, enough politics.
Which shows that these independents and greens were never going to vote for the Libs and hence we didn't need a carbon tax. Wilkie held a grudge and shafted Abbott. The poor fool is still looking for his pokies legislation.

I dont really care much for politics, however I can offer an positive (as a typical australian would see it) of the carbon tax/pricing scheme/watever - you know wat i mean.
Anyone heard the phrase - "you get out what you put in" or words to that effect.
IF, and its a big if, the carbon tax stays with us, then the sacrifice we make now, will return probably with interest to us down the track.
It will force us to curb our energy usage (and there are huge improvements to be made for those countries willing to change their mindset). Global energy prices are increasing and its an exponential trend (and because of this, thats where differences in usage will return with interest). If we do this now, while our economy is in relatively good shape, it will make our economy more relative (assuming other economies dont make much of a move-and currently most couldnt or wouldnt) to other economies and bring more weath to us relative to other nations.
