Are you guys aware of any reporters attending that may provide updates on Twitter?
I’m here … there’s a sign on the door saying phones off and no more taking allowed. I think Phil Hickey from The West is coming and maybe Bret from the Post I imagine. I’m actually feeling quite anxious for some reason… maybe it’s being in the city …

I imagine it would be an anxiety driven environment. A long time coming! Take care

This is really interesting..I’m taking notes now… other people are. There is a lot of talk about suicide. Julie’s Aunty is sitting next to me and thinks that’s what the coroner will rule.

Julie's Dad.

He said he believed at one time she could have been a victim of Claremont murderer Bradley Edwards, who abducted two young women off the streets of Perth in 1996 and 1997 before killing them.

Mr Cutler said Edwards "had been active at the time" his daughter disappeared, but police had told him they had ruled the convicted killer out of consideration.

Counsel assisting the coroner, Jon Tiller, revealed police uncovered 48 suspects as a result of their renewed investigation, saying five of those had died and 44 had not been ruled out.

But Edwards had not been among them, he said.

They didn’t… they just said not suicide. Her friend said she thought Julie met with foul play.

Thanks heaps for keeping us updated in here, many of us are interested in what the people around Julie's thoughts are and the outcome.

Reading the reports from the inquest today - i thinks it throw sa total different picture

On a balcony the night before and wanted to jump off it - because of a sudden end to a relationship - but was talked out of it by a friend

Cut both her wrists in Greece - because of the end of a relationship

Her car driven into the ocean at Noth Cottesloe - in a residential area - what perpetrator would do that ? - because there is a high chance you will get caught

A car driven onto the beach and then into the Ocean - that fits someone with erratic behaviour

She didn’t cut her wrists in greece… the journalists are putting a spin on things.

Here are my notes, let me know if you have any questions. Hopefully this makes a bit of sense:

They suspect suicide (police)

She was working at the Hilton in the penthouse a short time before she went missing and a colleague found her on the balcony where she said she was thinking about jumping off. After they went inside Julie started crying. This was just before she went missing and she had just broken up with someone. A couple of weeks before she went missing.

She was theatrical, outgoing. Very private person. She enjoyed attention. She was studious. She was enrolled in a course to learn how to teach English to people where it is a second language. Had financial issues so dropped out.

It was difficult for her to adjust to returning from her trip… she was on a travelling high.

She smoked herbal cigarettes occasionally.

Didn’t drink much and got drunk easily.

One month before she went missing she was followed by a car up Stirling hwy all the way home. She reported this to her dad.

Boyfriend named David before she went away to Europe.

Incident when she was in Greece, friend found her with a cut wrist in a hotel room, Julie said she was robbed.

Roger and sister Nicole both said no to suicide.

Colleague walked with her to her car after the staff party and Julie said she was going to meet someone but wouldn’t say who, she said it was a secret.

Was an avid letter writer and diary keeper.

Vivacious

Loved socialising

Bouts of depression

Took things to heart sometimes

Blew things out of proportion

Fight with sister.. Julie moved out, went down to the servo and grabbed a trailer and abruptly moved out of the house they were sharing…sister went to markets to make up sometime later and Julie said she’d call her, then she went missing. I think she moved in January so the sisters didn’t talk between the fight and the brief convo at the markets.

Spoke to aunt on phone the morning she went missing who told her to go to function, Julie wasn’t going to. Housemate also encouraged Julie to go.

June 13th call by Jennifer Marr from Tokyo … Julie was in good spirits. Julie had sent her a card saying she wanted to be sucked off the face of earth. Out of character.

Idris was Julie’s boyfriend and he wanted her to travel to Morocco with him, she said no. They broke up.

Met Idris at work possibly (Parmelia employee has since said this isn’t the case)

Risk taking

One night stands

Suicide without a letter out of character

2 men at work function invited her and a colleague home, her friend said no so julie said no too.

FIona Marr - flat mate

Milner college to study teaching English … 9 to 5 daily course…couldn’t do that and work too so she dropped out.

Worked at markets casually

Heimes surname (boyfriend)

Burglary - Julie’s psssport was stolen plus other items. Double story unit front door was unlocked (Julie and Fiona didn’t know how)

Bank card stolen.

Normal burglary … opportunistic

Fiona thinks not linked to stalking

Jennifer said to Fiona that Julie taking less personal care, risk taking

Fiona not close to Julie

The uniform found at kebab shop, the bag and stockings were thrown out… the shirt handed in to the police.

Carmela Fleming head waitress

Penthouse 10th floor…function private

Julie kept going out to the balcony

She told Carmela at the end of the night she broke up with her boyfriend and she was looking for his car in the parking lot below.

Julie said she wanted to kill herself.

When they were packing up the function Julie was crying. This was night before she went missing.

Julie went back into parmelia that night with a dress which was odd because the work function was the next night. Julie may have just gotten changed and gone elsewhere.

She could have been worried the ex was there or hoping he was coming …

Jeffrey Pearce chef

Saw Julie outside Parmelia, at the back… it was raining, Julie turned left on mill street in her car, wound down window and spoke to him.

Polish men that invited Julie home were”scum bags” … they got sacked

Connie - 2 very different statements, one on 1988, 1 when she retired.

They changed for function together, Julie wore black dress, black stockings, black shoes.

She saw Julie at end of the night talking to two polish men, they wanted them to go home for a drink, the girls said no. Julie was drinking champagne and appeared drunk.

Second statement… Julie asked her to go to a party in Cottesloe with a man at the bar. Julie was drunk.

I also attended today's inquest and I am now very, very firmly of the mind that Julie committed suicide. There's questions and details that will hopefully be elaborated on tomorrow, especially re: whether or where she went after the function and who she potentially met with, but at the moment I'm at maybe 85% suicide, 15% someone else was involved.

God, sorry for the triple barrel reply here but there's a lot to digest. When Pearce began talking about the polish men, I overheard Carmela (the witness just prior who say her on the balcony) say to the woman next to her that the man Pearce was talking about was "a creep"

Welcome to Big Footy.

Thanks for your reporting of the inquest.

Some previous quotes in years gone by in this thread on the suicide possibility.

Police ruled out suicide because Ms Cutler’s body would have been washed ashore if she had driven the car into the surf.

'Police ruled out suicide because Ms Cutler’s body would have been washed ashore if she had driven the car into the surf.'

Superintendent Ron Carey, who investigated the case, said the back seat of the car had been washed out of the vehicle and was found on a nearby beach.

"If the back seat could wash out why didn't Julie's body if she was in the car? Why didn't her shoes, handbag or some other item of property wash up?" he said while being interviewed for the Channel Nine documentary "To Catch a Killer" ten years ago.

"I believe she was never in the car when it went off Cottesloe Groyne. I believe that Julie was murdered and that the body was buried or secreted somewhere else before the car was dumped in the ocean."

I was just about to say this

"I had always heard they considered it wasn't suicide because her body would have washed up."

It have wondered from metic 's research if maybe she left her car or her car was left on the beach and perhaps something happened elsewhere.

Will wait for tomorrow's findings.

That was my sense of things too, especially having read this thread over the past month or so, but I think there's a LOT to suggest otherwise atm. We'll see what kind of evidence is given tomorrow, it may well change my mind. It's entirely possible the cops were just wrong about the possibility of the seat coming loose. Unlikely doesn't mean impossible I guess. One of the weird details that came out which I hadn't heard before was that at some point prior to the disappearance some film students at WAIT had made a short film where the protagonist commits suicide by driving into the ocean at Cottesloe. Jennifer Marr said she'd never heard Julie talk about having seen that film, but she did say that their extended social circle included a lot of media students alongside theatre kids. Maybe she saw it some time? I'm reserving judgement for now but today's evidence really affected my previous beliefs about this being foul play. Witness did say that Julie told them she was meeting someone after the function but she wouldn't say who, so I'm not 100% closing the book on murder yet.

Oh, one more thing for now: they mentioned at the opening statement that police felt it to be highly unlikely that Edwards involved, and they later confirmed that Julie's case coming onto Macro's radar was because of their suspicions around Lance Williams and the possibility they met at WAIT. We now know Williams was not CSK and they said that investigators never found any evidence of Julie meeting Lance anyway
