Any merit in giving Owies the 44? Wore it at Carlton, has been worn by small forwards of late (Long and Rioli most recently).

Depends on whether Hutchinson is happy to change I guess

Someone needs to go through the players socials as I assume lockers are likely to have been allocated

Someone regularly does, and will update this thread if there’s any news.

Some teams are starting to release there’s tonight.

Would love Allan in 3 but think Baker gets that and Bo will get the 16 he was drafted in. Dewar in 23 would be good but think Graham will get that.

Clay Hall could seek an upgrade.

Shanahan in 17 makes sense.

From eaglevision post in the Pre Season thread, it looks like it will be:

3 - Baker
17 - Graham
26 - Allan
37 - Champion
38 - Davis

My guess for the rest:

16 - Owies
23 - Shanahan
27 - Gross
31 - Grego

Possible as well that an existing player would change to a lower number - Maric, Dewar, Hutch, Edwards?

I really rate this from the crows. Stted it a few times but I really don’t like how we don’t seem to value jumper numbers outside 20. 30 and 24 should always been given to the big name recruits and/or high ish draft picks

After Jakovich retired 27 has only been given to McKinley and Darling, both top 30 picks.

24 has been given to our highest draft pick whenever it’s available (Rosa, Partington, ONeill). Giving it to Johnston broke that trend but I’ve got high hopes for him after his finish to the season.

Bunga was drafted before Mckinley and he should have been given jacko’s number

Speaking of Bunga they gave off his number straight away to a journeyman ruckmen

I’m stuck between wanting jumper numbers with a strong history to be respected and trying to be more mature than to be unduly concerned about what number a particular player wears

I will say this though, if the club thought 17 important enough to not allocate straight away then it seems odd to give it to a role player like Graham

As for No.3 - Mainwairing, Judd, Gaff…

with all due respect to Baker he’s not in that company. Should be held over for a year

3 should be saved for Chad or Fred “Freddy the Jet” Rodriguez, if either lands at the club. Not a fan of Baker & Graham getting numbers like 3 & 17. Some will say it’s just a number & not that deep, but that’s absolute trash & you all know it.

16: Baker
17: Shanahan
23: Maric
26: Gross
27 J.Williams
31: Edwards
34: Graham
35: Grego
37: Sellwood or Denver Grainger-Barrass
38: Champion
41: Davis
42: Owies

I have a feeling that the number 3 would have been among Bakers list of trade demands though.

I'm massively in the "who tf cares they are just numbers" camp.

Let kids make the number their own instead of being obsessed with who wore it before them. I hope Owies gets 17 just to piss you campaigners off.
I’ve heard most Carlton players traded to West Coast ask for 17

3 Baker
16 Owies
17 Graham
23 Maric (from 41)
26 Allan
27 Gross
31 Grego
35 Shanahan
37 Champion
38 Davis

Ignoring the travesties up the top of that list, hope Hamish Davis can turn around the bad run that 38 has had since Brett Jones retired.

It’s only appeared in 10 games in the past 14 seasons (6 by Murray Newman either side of his stint in the big house, then 4 by Moneybags Mutimer in his 4 years on the list.

Since then it’s been allocated to Ben Johnson (2020-2021), Tom Joyce (2022) and Jordyn Baker (2023-2024). It didn’t even get a run on the back of Pat Naish, who wore just about every other number while waiting for Castore to produce a 43 in his size.
