Coach Justin Longmuir Pt 2

Hey we might suddenly turn into a premiership team, but more like we’ll still be s**t…and the coach is a dead duck…

I’d be ecstatic if he’d allow some ******* attacking footy…
That's not the point, the point is you can't tell. There appears to be zero correlation between pre-season form and real season form for any team.

So while your melting may end up correct, it's pure luck if you get there from pre-season.

Save the melts for round 1.

I agree with you about the result meaning nothing in preseason.

But several aspects of tonight’s performance were alarming. Even the most stout optimists must be feeling a touch nervous.

If we were so lose say, 3 or 4 of the first 6 in the same manner as tonight, it would be curtains for JL.

Only saving grace is the personnel missing tonight.

Also - for crying out loud get Wagner and Walker in to that bloody back 6 and add some pace and unpredictability 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

We can’t defend the switch. Other teams break to the open side and we have absolutely no mechanism for stopping their transition. We don’t ever push forward and hem them in. It’s nuts. JLo a dead man walking IMO. Jackson / Amiss / Emmett aren’t going to stop the switch.

The problems today weren’t related to forward line personnel imo. They may have got us 3-4 more goals but there was glaring issues with speed of ball movement, lack of corridor use and lack of speed.

If that’s the game plan JL is honesty completely f***ed.

those 1st 5 games of the season are gonna be nasty.....

Round 1 vs Brisbane at home

Round 2 vs North in docklands

ROund 3 vs Crows at home

round 4 vs Carlton in Adelaide oval

round 5 vs Port in Adelaide.

Round 6 vs West coast in Perth.

If we don’t win 3 of those minimum we have done something wrong.

I agree...

What was more disturbing was how easily port scored some of their goals. It was like no one was in our back 50. Some port players just jogged in there and scored goals on the run.

Yea lack of speed/spread is an issue both offensively and defensively. We don’t seem to have the speed or running power other teams do.

Fair point except when he managed my boys, the Mighty Spurs. Turned us into a boring watch…
thats true. Spurs finished 6th in Jose Mourinhos 1st full season at spurs.

He got sacked in the 2nd season at spurs, literally a few days before the EFL cup final vs Man city. Spurs lost 1-0.

He never spent more than 3 full seasons at one club, Except for chelsea in 2004-7. Chelsea he won the EPL title, losing only 1 game the whole season (vs Man city, before they had money). They scored 72 goals and conceded only 14 or 15 goals the whole season. 2005-6, still a strong side and won the epl title again. 2006-7 lost the epl title by 6 points. 24 wins, 11 draws and only 3 losses. one month into 2007, he walked out because of Arguments with Roman Abramovich.

That was my biggest takeaway from tonight, our speed both offensively and defensively is borderline diabolical.

Other teams are constantly on the move on either facet but we seem far too preoccupied with holding “our structure”

Meanwhile said oppo team has already blasted past us and delivering inside 50…..

that is the main issue for me. Good teams spread well.

Solid sides dont turn the ball over regularly like we did in 2023.

I don’t see skills as a problem at all tbh - no team in the AFL has perfect skills.

The only things I see between where we were at last year and rising into the top eight are things I’ve already said. I do fear at times we’re not capable of running/spreading well enough but not for a single second do I believe our best 30-odd don’t have the skills to play a game style that is far offensively effective.

The dockers midfield talent is good. top 8 worthy indeed.

But there has to be 23 solid players to pull their weight each game.

God the people calling for Longmuir's head before the season has even started, get a grip and stop being so emotional, think about it rationally.
Yeah I agree. But after the trauma of last season where we were smashed out of contention so early in the season, it's understandable.

We may end up with a groundhog as our mascot.
