Coach Justin Longmuir Pt 2

The two things that would put him on thin ice for me is how long they just left Banfield to flounder at the level and going with the dud tactic of playing Walters as sub. Just head banging into the wall stuff.
Banfield was good this year, until he wasn't. Still kicked 20 goals but agree he was crap after the Eagles game.

Realistically though, there really wasn't anyone we could bring in so when Walters became 'available' he got the flick.

Context is important. You can't just drop a bloke who's been performing adequately for an imaginary gun forward sitting in the 2s. It isn't the Battle of Berlin.

Totally agree, you can't just gift games to Simpson, Delean and others when they stink it up most of the year in the WAFL and then trying to play Erasmus or others out of position in the forward line never works.

My trust in that "pressure gauge" is very low. There's no transparency regarding the metrics they use. It also seems a bit descriptive. They also flashed it up at others times in the game where our rating notched up at "Elite". Plus the season was on the line the whole game, not just the third.
The 'pressure gauge' might be the biggest load of horseshit in the AFL.

No doubt - our list should be better in 2025 regardless of whether we get Bolton (which should be priority number one IMO), and with that should come improvement. If Amiss, Treacy and Jackson can become A graders up forward then that's a pretty imposing prospect. But something has to change in our playing style to capitalise on that.

Yeah we were leading the clearances, but didn't capitalise on it in scoring.
Mid forward connection needs to improve

Old mate Flagmantle on Facebook has gone full scorched Earth on the team and Longmuir, he seems like an example of someone who takes football too seriously. Like I get it, being frustrated is fine, but he borders on pure anger issues.

I don't know what people on this forum think of him though.

He needed a reset of some form of another for weeks. Banfield was running in a clear deficit, not performing adequately. The team couldn't really afford to carry that deficit, especially given the run we had. No need to get in "an imaginary gun", just someone who could hold their own.

Even a development position would've been preferable. Banfield could've even come back in if he got some form back too.

Banfield would have serious benefited from a couple of weeks in the WAFL to get his confidence back up, but no, keep playing him in the AFL team.

It’s frustrating but we got to keep our cool. Flagmantle have been fans of freo for less than 10 years…they have NFI and clearly have never played at any level. They do their thing for the memes and followers.

Their isn’t one podcast I can relate to as well.

Team needs more class and imo a new coach to turn certain careers around and few rockets. Things are too comfortable down in Cockburn and it’s time for a change. The 1 year deal shows they have little confidence in Jlo and I reckon something could happen.

Not sure if "things are too comfortable down in Cockburn" and the last sentence correlate.

Most people i talk to outside bigfooty have mostly the same view as Flagmantle. The mods here keep this forum balanced .But yeah theres a lot of anger around at the moment. It's a hard gig being a Docker.

These are good teams we’re playing, more experienced teams who have done it all before regularly.
It’s no coincidence most of the wins we had this year were against bad teams.
We lost to
Sydney x 1
GWS x 1
Geelong x 1
Port x 2
Carlton x 1
Dogs x 1
Hawks x 1

We beat:
Sydney x 1
Brisbane x 1
Dogs x 1

That’s 3-8 against the finalists.

You can’t win a flag without beating the good teams. The best teams bring higher pressure, for longer periods.

I’ve been saying for 3 years now that we overuse the handball out of stoppage. It’s not going to change next year.

The results will be the same. It won’t work.

Last year is his final year of his contract, if he can't get us to finals and top 4, he's probably gone, as he should be.

I've lost all the will to get angry or upset now, at the end of the day it's just football and I can't let this shit have an effect on me.
Top Four? We aren't playing in the EPL mate.

The idea of a team finishing between 5th and 8th and sacking their coach is borderline unfathomable in the AFL. It shouldn't be but I don't think it's been done in like 20 years especially with a team that didn't make finals the year before.

We're stuck with JL unless we miss finals. If we have a similar season to this year expect him to be re-signed by July anyway btw.

It does work, but we can't do it for 4 quarters.

If what you were saying was true, then these teams would be smashing us regularly. You don't get as close as we've been to all of those teams without the gameplan holding up.

Who is available that you are sure is a better person to coach?
season 5 GIF

Stop making excuses for a coach that has underachieved two years in a row.

I get it you are just here for the feels and you don't care if the club can actually run a successful football department.

But amazingly mediocrity annoys people who have higher standards than your own.
Have these high standards of yours been in hiding the past 30 years? Because you're still here and we're still underachieving. Almost like it's all a bunch of hot air from a fan wanting someone to blame.

We were all too happy to pat ourselves on the backs and talk up sustained success a month ago when top 2 was possible. We aren't suddenly going nowhere because of one month of football.
