same could happen with Carey if he doesnt end up coming to Adelaide. Carlton could pick him up aswell and both our teams would be left high and dry

True - while I would say that the Roos are in a slightly better position in that Carey wants a trade to go ahead and has nominated his team of choice, it would be pretty unlikely that either of them would end up in the draft. It is in both the players and the clubs best interest if "something can be worked out"

both will be traded to he benifit of both clubs and players

Carlton will get squat

won't that be a shame :D :D

North definatly have the upper hand in the deal. Carey wants to go to Adelaide and they want him, so they have to give up something decent or he'll walk. The only bad thing for North is that we only have the 1 club to negotiate with.

Johnson quitting today ensures even more that Carey will go to Adelaide. I doubt that Adelaides low first rounder will satisfy us by itself. Then Adelaide would have to trade us a player as well, which will no doubt desturb there playing group. All this can be avoided by using Johnson as the bait, which he no doubt will be IMO.

North and adelaide will do a deal.

my feel is that there is respect between the clubs and both have been fair negotiators over the years (Schwass and Grant, Colbert and the deal to bring Jarman to the crows) none of this crap rape and pillage like a fremantle last year or collingwood a few years back with rocca.

You may argue thats crap but decent clubs do decent deals because they want to achieve outcomes.

My gut feel is that johnson will be traded to a club for a top draft pick - how it comes is irrelevant (richmond is the obvious choice at the moment but carlton and essendon can't be discounted as they have a need for a top mid-fielder in my opinion).

{We won't be able to grab the boy no matter how much we want him as we have been consigned to mediocrity (the 92.5% rule) for a few years due to $$$$ issues.

From a football perspective its not a bad time to tighten the belt as we are already going through a re-building stage}.

I also reckon we'll be asking for Adelaides first pick.

For us a top deal for adealiade a touch expensive but then how much is a premiership worth when they're so close to midnite.

A couple of quotes from http://www.realfooty.theage.com.au/articles/2002/10/09/1034061255663.html give a pretty good indication that Richmond's pick number 4 could be ours for the taking.

The Roos have indicated to the Crows that their late first-round pick in the draft, selection 14, will not be enough, meaning a club interested in Johnson and with a top-six selection will have to play a third party role in the Carey deal.

"I think it's fair to say that through the Carey negotiations we intend to better our current position in the first round of the draft significantly," said Kangaroo chief executive Geoff Walsh, who has held preliminary talks about Carey with his Adelaide counterpart, Steven Trigg.

Richmond is interested. Newly appointed director of football, Greg Miller, said that Johnson's age and his stature as a dual-premiership player meant he was of comparable value to a No. 4 draft pick.

It will be interesting to see if Carlton stick to their plan of using the first couple of draft picks to pick up kids. Johnson would be a fairly appealing addition to their midfield.

Between Carlton and now Richmond, we have 2 blokes who are almost compulsive draft pick p*ssers. I mean you only have to look at some of the high picks they've chucked away on comparative rubbish over the years, or gotten fooled into thinking that a club deserves 43 picks and 7 players for a former captain!

If anyone is going to chuck high picks at Adelaide for Johnson, it'll be Pagan and Miller. Lets hope they try and outbid eachother and we end up with the spoils.

C'mon Greggy and Denni, its that time of the year where you 2 go silly! You can just see Pags scanning the field of delistees thinking "now which ******* can i have a go at" and Miller shaking in excitement as he opens the cheque book and prepares to throw ridiculous cash at the first person who tells him what a great guy he is! Dont let us down this time guys!

Perhaps the real reason that Johnson is leaving is that Carey is coming to town maybe Kane will have some competition in the female stakes. If the rumour about Kane and Rehn's missus is true.

That rumour you heard about Rehn's partner? Surely that is a case of "Chinese whispers" ... it has obviously passed through one hell of a lot of sets of lips & ears since it started. How do I know? That rumour started when Modra left ... only of course it wasn't Kane then, it was of course Modra.

It is quite funny to hear it coming around yet again. It was stupid when it started four years ago and it is even more stupid now.
