Gunston was no champion when he got to Hawthorn, although there was some promise about him, but his straight kicking was a real boon to them. Karnezis may be something similar to us if kicking 1.5-2 goals a game.

Gunston to me has 3 glowing attributes - he is rangy and marks the ball at its highest point (almost textbook) so is very hard to defend against, he is deceptively strong in contests and can win his own ball, he is gun barrell straight. So now, posters on many boards are talking about getting someone to play 'the Gunston' role in the way they used to talk about the 'Leigh Brown' role. Different players obviously but they have become a 'type' that everyone wants.

Haven't seen Karnezis at all but if he can play anything resembling a Gunston role I'd be interested. To me Hawthorn are so balanced and dangerous because of their multi-pronged attack (Gunston, Breust, Hale etc etc)

I've mentioned it before, but he has already located to Melbourne, Brisbane don't have anything to work with, we can pick him up as a DFA or 4th round if Brisbane really want that pick...

Really wouldn't be surprised if we just left him to leave via the PSD. Probably won't use the 4th round pick, and we won't delist him.

I have a feeling we might just let him go in the draft/PSD where Collingwood will probably end up picking him up anyway. He's not really worth more than a third rounder to another club, and given we may not pick that late anyway it might be an chance to send a bit of a "message". Rather than making it easy for him and delisting him allowing him to be picked up as a DFA.

The days of sending "messages" are over.

You will do the sensible thing and get him to his preferred club because even you guys know that he is not worth anything more than a 3rd round pick at best in the open market, irrespective if you plan on using that pick or not.

The player has already packed his bags, he has already relocated back home, he is out the door.

You will deal with another club to find him a new home.

I have dabbled in the Lions thread- they are not a fan of his.. Lazy and they incinuated he may have been a ringleader in the mass exodus of all the young home-sick talent. They thought his laziness wouldn't be tolerated at Collingwood but I'm excited. I reckon he's a stronger, faster, less skilful Gunston.

Brions fans have trouble accepting how much trouble they are in.

Culture is putrid and I got that from someone on their coaching panel.

This has anthony corrie written all over it.

it amazes me how people inflate someones ability when they become available.

if he cant get a game for brisbane who are desperately short of forwards how is he going to get a game in our team if we have any aspirations of being a top 4 side?

he'll just be a list clogger like russell jordan who will end up blocking a guy like jackson paine from getting a game because we feel obligated to justify picking him up.

either go hard for a gun 2nd forward via a trade or just use one of out top picks on a medium forward

I think Armstong from Sydney is more the Corrie clone as he has been in the system for some time and has got no where.

For 4th round Karnesis is fine, he is still young enough to turn it around if he has the skill and dedication to do it. If not, no problems he will play VFL and dissapear in due course. Hard to see how Russell held out Paine. Lynch would be the one and Paine can't ruck hence why Lynch was in front of him.

Problem is I reckon we're already got 5 or 6 "38th player on the list" and need to recruit blokes who can firstly, play, and secondly have potential to bring attributes that we lack.

Karnezis doesn't fit either of the above criteria, so no ****ing way should be we making him the 6th "38th player on the list" IMHO

I'd prefer to use a 4th rounder on JPod, at least he would offer something in the seniors.

IF he costs very little, then yeah throw him a 2 year deal and see what he can do. However, doing a bit of reading elsewhere, his stats don't look as amazing as they are being made out here.

Don't underestimate the dedication of a kid playing for a club he and his family have supported their whole lives.

That combined with a fresh start can do strange things. Again, if he costs us nothing, then no harm no foul.

That's why he is a 4th rounder (at best). Has shown some flashes but overall pretty ordinary.

Hine rates him and we tried to trade for him last year. His value has dropped due to his inability to get a game.

Funniest thing about Karnesis is watching the value fall.

Brions posters thought he was worth a second rounder, now he is out to 4th round.

If we just have to Trade our 4th Round Pick. What is the Hold-UP

They'll be working out the big guns first I'd say. There won't be any trades done until the whole Shaw thing is out of the way. Then you can expect to see things like White and Karnezis done.

There's a lot to factor in, salary cap, swapping of picks, other clubs requirements etc... You sort out you main priority first, then look for bonus trades like that of Karnezis.

Precisely, no point trading away our picks, only to find we may need to use them as part of the Shaw & or Adams deals (maybe 1 deal, maybe 2 deals).
We may also be able to improve our later picks? which will in turn strengthen our position for later trades.
Keep the powder dry. Once Shaw deal goes thru the rest will follow quickly.

If we get this guy we have truly fallen from grace. Picking up a player like Krakouer was a good idea. This in comparison seems like a "just because" deal.

I think the Karnezis deal will happen for a very late pick because simply put he is better than what will be available for a 4th rounder.

I actually think he looks ok. Pace and endurance is good. Kicking is ok...not elite but not bad either. Seems a reasonable shot on goal based on his debut season where he showed he could mark well and be a decent foil for the bigger men. Remember he was playing on Brisbane's forward line which has not had any great talls other than Jonathon Brown.

Then he showed in this years NAB Cup that he knows how to find the ball on a wing.

With a few years in the system, seems to me to be the ideal 4th round pick. Someone that you take the punt on.

Probably will end up another Simon Buckley or Jordan Russell type pick...but the bonus with him is that he is younger so perhaps a bit more to work with.

Remember we scored Leigh Brown at this sort of pick, so one every now and then pays off and it costs you very very little.

That is what I was thinking but If it's a 4th Round Pick that will not get Involved in the 2 Big Trades
