About time some KDFL clubs start spending money on their facilities instead of on players!! Not many KDFL clubs have good facilities - a reported $800 per game for the Murch recruits - $50k could certainly go a long way in fixing up their changerooms which really are below standard!!
the new facility thats planned for 2014 should take care of that.

Anyone started preseason training yet ? Any good whispers out there as yet ?
Ex murch coach justin williams to shepp east and nick airs and luke cecchin also set to join i hear! Trev graham already there to.. its a revolving door at murch they would have turned a few players over in last few years!!

Agree with this. Not many clubs are striking a good balance between player payments and other areas l of investment. Infrastructure development is one area that clubs generally underfund, especially where opposition facilities are concerned. This is somewhat understandable given that there is little short to medium term benefit and most clubs only really plan a few years ahead. Coupled with the difficulty associated with applying for grants funding. But one area that clubs should invest more in is player insurance. Too often the policy the players are covered by is the minimum available and few understand what that policy actually covers until they are in the unfortunate position of needing to make a claim.

Personally I'd like to see clubs subsidise more appropriate player insurance policies when the funds are available to do so.

The funding required to build these facilities would take most KDFL clubs decades to raise the revenue for on their own (when you take other expenses into consideration). I would be very surprised if clubs had a guaranteed income for more than three years at a time, which makes long term investments difficult.

In regard to your player insurance comments, I agree, player insurance is woefully inadequate in most instances.

This year at VT we put up new lights for both football and netball all volunteer labour and added an outdoor bar/BBQ area once again all volunteer labour and a lot of fundraising and hard work

Insurance is a very important point as I know of a few self employed people that don't play anymore due to the risk of injury

On top of that Sparra we also installed a state of the art Glycol system in the bar as well as a walk in coolroom worth about 30k, spent another 20k in the kitchen for catering as well as the things that you mentioned above and not one grant involved. We have pretty good clubrooms and a very good scoreboard, all we need now is to straighten the bloody goal posts. Hopefully in the next two years we will be able to add five more lights to each tower so we can play registered night games at VT all once again funded by our club, things are looking very positive for the future one would think.

But you can't put a net behind the northern goals (or a spare ball behind the goal post)???

Yeah its not good but a net is in the pipeline at the moment, councils pruning guidelines of the redgum trees that are in the way is a sticking problem at the moment but hopefully this can be solved in the near future though..

Well that all sounds great , but can you stop pissing in your own pocket and bragging how good you all are.

That is quite impressive that VT have been able to get those facilities in place on the back of volunteers work (and $50,000); however I would be incredibly surprised if the rest of the KDFL or many other district clubs could afford to do that. Just because Violet Town could do it, doesn’t mean everyone could. While you may be fortunate with your backers, it doesn’t necessarily mean your club people work any harder than the likes of Girgarre, Merrigum or Avenel who have been down for so long.

Back on topic, in my opinion money for substantial upgrading of facilities outside of year-to-year expenses for a district football club is a bit more than a simple, “let’s not recruit for a few years”. In my experience anyway.

Good on VT for what they have done but can i ask do the Football Club own the ground and facilities around the ground? i know in our case we rent our ground and facilites from a parks trust. Is it the football club tipping all the cash in or is it the Football Club, Cricket club, VT market committee and any other groups that use the area all putting in?

The footy club has tipped about 98% of all the funding and has done 100% of the volunteer work to achieve this decent facility. I'm not saying we are the be all to end all but sometimes alot of hard work and thinking long term and outside the square will get you along way.And as for old mate speedy,we will always piss in our pockets as the bar facilities are awesome and the beer is cold so therefore the bladder does need to be emptied once in awhile:D

Any further developments on this? Assuming it's not true, would be amazing though. Have heard he might be playing at Old Xaverians in the VAFA in 2013.
Apparently going to play only 2-3 games there, good mates with a VT player. as is Ben Johnson, so could be more making an appearance there! great for the league and VT but terrible news for other clubs! might "pull my hammy" the weekends Taz plays and go for a look!
