Ken Hinkley contracted until 2025.
Ross Lyon contracted until 2026.

Does anyone think either of them can become a premiership coach?

Ken Hinkley has a better win percentage than Alastair Clarkson and Damien Hardwick. Where is the thread for that? This one isn't really noteworthy because Ross Lyon has won as many premierships as Ken Hinkley.
good point about that.

Crazy to think Ken Hinkley has a better win percentage than my man Ross Lyon.

Ross Lyon some how got saints and freo to a grand final.

Suprised Hinkley hasnt sent Port to a grand final. lol

to me it is.

2014 or 2020 could of been grand final years for port

2014 could have been, but by 2020 we were always going to find a way to lose, and we did, by getting blown out in the centre square, leading us to have to launch every attack from halfback against arguably the best transition defence of all time.

Did anyone think Damien Hardwick or Mark Thompson would win a premiership after they'd both been in the job for 7 years, making the finals 3 times each, and getting bounced out every time? They ended up steering their teams to multiple flag dynasties.

An even better example is Andy Reid in the NFL.

He received the same sort of criticism as Kenny - a pretty good coach who knew how to beat the weak teams, but always got found out against the really good teams in finals.

He coached the Philadelphia Eagles for 14 years, going to playoffs in 9 of those seasons for 1 Superbowl appearance (lost to the Patriots). He was eventually fired... but he was then hired by the Kansas City Chiefs were he continued his winning ways. Made the playoffs in 5 of his first 6 seasons, but his teams always somehow imploded on home soil.

20 years as an NFL head coach with a winning rate of 61%.

his team made the playoffs but couldn't get it done. Not just squeaking into the playoffs by default. The Eagles and Chiefs nearly always won their division and were among the Superbowl favourites. Except Andy Reid was a "choker". A stubborn clown who couldn't adapt to finals football.

Yep... Nobody criticises Andy Reid any more. Not since the Chiefs won the Superbowl in the 2019/20 season and then proved it was no fluke by winning a second title last year. (They're well-placed to win their 3rd this season)

Andy Reid will go into the NFL Hall of Fame someday, recognised as one of the greatest coaches of all time. It's incredible to think back at how maligned he was before he finally won the Superbowl. People called him an old fool... a buffoon... His army of critics would've also used the 🤣 emojis if anyone suggested he was a really good coach who just needed a little luck to go his way.

Or what about Mark Thompson? Seven years as Geelong coach, just 3 finals series (2 wins, 4 losses) and barely surviving an internal review when everyone predicted he would be sacked after the talented Cats finished 10th in 2006.

You realise daddy shit truck is heading into season TWELVE, not seven, right?

And didn’t win any of them. Is that any different to losing in the Prelim?

They lost one grand final narrowly to a very dominant Geelong team and one Milne unlucky bounce away from winning the 2010 flag.

Also got Freo into their first and only grand final so far.

No fan of Ross at all, but his coaching resume is far more impressive than Kern's (least when it comes to finals performances)

I'm curious. How many years would Sam Mitchell have to consistently finish 4th-12th without ever winning (or even making it to) the big one before you'd want him gone. 20? 25? 30?

But he did achieve success at his second club..
Not in his first six years

14 years in Philly + 6 years in Kansas City = 20 years

Regular division winners, always one of the Superbowl favourites
But the old fool always lost at home in the playoffs.

"He's a stubborn old clown," said the knockers.

"Put him out to pasture. Put him out of his misery. Just get him the f**k away from my team."

Next minute...

to be fair, the NFL seems much happier with winning seasons than AFL .... I don't get it, but you hear commentators alwys pumping up tires regarding "a winnign season"

No one rates us. Even when we finish top 4, no one sees us a threat because we basically only win against the average teams.

Not really the same as winning all the time and being superbowl favourites is it?

Are you related to daddy? Why do you defend the loser?

I agree with Port fans regarding Hinkley. Shouldn’t have been extended and should’ve been sacked twice before imo however it them putting the early season form exclusively down to Carr, then it all being Hinkley when it didn’t work out is rather stupid. Can’t have it both ways.
I'm more than happy for Carr to clear out his locker too if that helps.

I am not even a fan of the NFL, But I am glad this was brought up.

I follow the NBA.

Jerry Sloane coached the Utah Jazz from 1988-2011.

Karl Malone and John Stockton were team mates for 18 straight years. every season in that 18 year period they made play offs.

In the AFL thats 18 years in a row of making finals.

Saying that, Utah Jazz were dangerously close to an NBA title win in either 1997 or 1998. Its Just a shame the Chicago bulls lead by Michael Jordan got in the way...

I loved SB nations youtube clip of this series called untitled. This one with Malone and Stockton. a very good entertaining clip.

When you remember how bad Port were when Ken first arrived it puts into perspective just how good of a job he's done.
