The AFL have never taken head knocks seriously enough. The fact that Bailey got back up should be irrelevant, if he had done that to Paddy Mccartin it would have ended his career. The act needs to be penalised not the outcome.

If the AFL were serious this would be a 6 week ban and the AFL would send the message that preventable blows to the head are going to be significantly penalised from here on out.

And to head off any accusations of bias or hypocrisy I also think that Buddy should get 3 weeks for his hit last night. He honestly does not seem to have enough concern for the welfare of opposition players and too often collects them high or just narrowly avoids getting them high.

Buddy should've got 12 weeks, if he did that to Paddy McCartin he would've killed him.

IMO they've set a bad precedent by grading all bumps as careless.

Just call it Intentional and medium impact.

Intentional, severe impact, low outcome.

intentional and severe are multipliers, outcome multiplier is 1 no matter what. Got to stop this farce of players getting lenient penalties just because the action missed by a cm or 2.

unbelievable that the week after concussion lawsuit the afl comes up with penalties like this. Should have been 4 minimum.

How do they measure that? Seems pretty arbitrary, in what circumstances could it have caused injury that differed from the actual incident?

Drug use isn't actually illegal in most states of Australia.
Even possession is not illegal under a certain amount.

Whether supporters like it or not, if the AFL don't start giving 4-6 weeks for something like this (regardless of any injury caused or not), it will cost them bazillions down the track. Like cigarette companies, they have now reached the point where they can no longer claim they didn't know the consequences

Pickett chose to jump up and hit a player in the head instead of tackling. Absolutely stupid. IMO should get four weeks for that. The player hit didn't feel a thing. 2 week suspension.

Buddy deliberately takes out a player's head, IMO should get 4 weeks for that. Absolute grub act. Player left the game and had a concussion test. 1 week suspension.

Both were assessed as high-impact and careless. The difference in the weeks they were given was that Pickett's was deemed high impact and Franklins' was deemed medium impact.

Outside of AFL corruption - is there any other reason for this decision?

In all seriousness you can't prove that he was trying to take his head off, but the extraordinary level of recklessness should be graded just the same as intentional IMO.

We’ve been saying this for years just because the bloke is lucky his jaw isn’t smashed in 10 places should not make the action any better. Expected this charge but do I agree with it no. In a week we have had a class action launched we take the softest punishment ever on head high contact
