Probably backs up my point.
Lancaster can pick up Ky blokes. Why don’t the Roo’s and Merrigum have the same luck.
Same with Shepp East v Tally.
Why do some always attract them and others don’t
When Tally was winning they had no issue getting players , now they have dropped back due to a number of Factors and like most majorly by Covid they are obviously struggling like other teams Gig and Merrigum, plus more Look at Rushy ! , Players want to go to clubs that are winning or a chance for a flag , hence why the teams mentioned like Shepp East and Lancaster have no problems currently getting players. Remove the points so a Club and get more high quality players in to assist the climb up the ladder faster and the recruiting will come.
i know for a fact that some or the players that went from United to Shepp east where spoken to by Tally over the past couple of years and they took less money to choose shepp east beacuse they thought they would win a flag sooner !

You can’t tell me merrigum & girgarre aren’t throwing more at ky blokes then what lanky pay them. Lanky brings people in and they stay, it’s shown over time.
35 years ago kids playing in the ky junior sides would trek out to Lancy to fill in for their thirds , rarely if ever to the other KDL clubs .

Let me know when your down there next and I’ll come have a pot with ya, happy to run you through afew of our sides over last couple of years and show you where players have played majority of their footy and reasons they stay at lanky.
Great club lancy when my young bloke took up a coaching roll there I was lucky enough in spending 6 enjoyable years there .You are right mystery once players go there they stay, also that’s why their ressies are always so strong Myself playing quite a bit of footy at Ardy and GIG I didn’t have a lot of time for the wombats for different reasons, but once I become part of the club straight away I could see why they had been so successful

I agree Swoop. Their trajectory has been “Hawthorn-like”, Chris Salter forever changed the culture in late 70s/early 80s, before that they weren’t overly successful.

Sadly we left the area when I was 12 and I never got to play a game for the Wombats but got my love of football from watching the old man winning flags at Lancaster (including the one against Murch!). From then on, all I wanted to do was represent my community club.

Now as an administrator, it’s nice to beat them and to be considered of similar ilk, I do hope that we can sustain our position in the top 3rd of the ladder as the Wombats have seemed to do across all grades for 40 years.

Yes well said mate

I’ve kept off here for a bit as far as commenting goes. But kept an eye on the posts. We’ve obviously had a bit of transition this year at Merrigum with changes of coach, president, many executive and lots of players.

As football manager, the players is the trickiest part. We got pushed out to 45 points. Probably should’ve got 46 but the application went in before more left. My fault.

We have had games where our top end of players are high quality but the bottom few are genuine twos, guys doubling, etc whatever you want to say about it.

But what I have found most frustrating and I think many would agree. And this goes for anyone whether they’re down the bottom or up to the top.

We have reserves graded players (2 points) getting an extra point because they’ve been at 3 or more clubs in 3 seasons. This only needs to be a registration not a game played. Usually these types of players are just moving with their mates or to avoid some travel or whatever. I would like to see the 3+ clubs in 3 seasons left for senior graded players but removed for reserves graded players.

The other issue is that playing 5+ games a season at U18 level doesn’t give players point reductions. It may or may not at U17 or below but I’m unsure. Either way we don’t have that. Imagine if Merrigum had thirds. They got a player from Kyabram, they played 2 seasons of 5+ games and by the time they reached seniors they’re 1 point. Instead they’re a ‘transferred junior’ despite coming across 2 seasons prior and enter seniors at 3 points despite playing 30-40 games for the club.

They are honestly a couple of small changes that I know would help a lot of KDL and maybe other leagues out to manage things a bit easier.

I will challenge anyone to give me examples against what I’ve written. Happy to hear it because I think it’s incredibly reasonable and would be beneficial for anyone whether they’re at the top of the bottom of the ladder.

Correct re: flags but they also fit into the points due to previous connections to Shepp East. Or connections to players there. Shepp East have done a great job getting past players back and new guys and keeping them there for years.

Why are afl vic making guys predominantly reserves players added points? It's really put in place to get rid of struggling clubs,

I thought the whole point of playing footy at community level is trying to get in as many people as possible to play, not deter them?

If you've played more reserves footy than senior footy, surely you've got to be a 1 point player, that has to be the dumbest implementation of afl vic ever, makes zero sense

We lost 2 key position 1 pointers in the first couple of rounds, we brought up a 2s player who came to the club to play with his two brothers and also has a sister heavily involved with the netball, played only reserves football at Tongala and Gig before that. He is a 3 pointer. An absolute joke.

I’d be seeking it to be reviewed.
It appears the rule whereby reserves players don’t cop a loading for coming from a premier league is often not taking into account until pointed out .

Edit : appears reserves premier league player does Cop a extra point when going to community league 🤦‍♂️ 🤦‍♂️
