Speculation Kysaiah Pickett [RFA 2027]

Unless Darcy has a ripper year and can prove he can stay on the park no club is paying a top 10 pick for an over priced ruck who seems to be in rehab for half a season every year.
It's all going to come down to his performance this year. Play 22 games and finish in the top 5 in the Doig and he is worth a first rounder. Play 15 games and he's worth a second rounder. Play no games and he's worth a packet of Samboy chips.

If we ended up giving three firsts to bring Kozzy over I could live with it. I would expect nothing less than a GF appearance for 26 and 27 so those would essentially be 17+.

I just personally don’t think that’s what the deal will end up being though but I guess we’ll see

Gone are the days where first rounders are actually guarantee top 18 picks.
The big question is if Melbourne perform in 2025 or if you slide further and the wheels fall off. I assume you will have a new coach if it is the later and it will probably be a good opportunity to cash in on any players who don’t want to be there.

Bolton deal is close in value but Freo can only trade what they have and 2 first rounders is fair for a small forward, even though he is a top shelf one. Maybe a fringe player in a position of need for the Dee’s as steak knives depending also how Freo go and how our team looks.

We’re not forcing anybody out who wants to stay though.

To be fair if our wheels fall off, I wouldn’t be against us doing a Richmond fire sale of Trac/Pickett/Oliver and Petty and hit the draft with 8-10 first rounders.

Would say if that was in the thinking then last year would have been the year it was done. The brass clearly think you have a flag list, and to be fair you probably do until you get to the F50.

I don't understand all of this Flagmantle talk. I heard it last year after you poached Luke Jackson and you guys came 10th.
Because it's fun and has a good ring to it, obviously most Freo fans are jilted lovers who constantly suspect Fremantle will break their hearts all over again... but nevertheless we endure, and we support.

If it does end up happening that would be amazing, I'd probably get a Freo tattoo lol

Is he really though?
Consider these points:
  • No other team in the competition ties up big money for 2 x ruckman.
  • No team in the comp (sans Melbourne) have won a premiership in the last 10 years with a dominating and highly paid ruck.
  • Good and competitive rucks (Jordan Sweet, Lloyd Meek) can be bought relatively cheaply - in both draft capital and salary.

Considering all of the above, is it wise for Freo to tie up a huge chunk of salary in 2 ruckman, and, is Darcy actually more important than Pickett? (He's definitely not more important than Warner. That's not even a discussion).
Our game plan works a lot better when we have Darcy dominating. It’s why we missed finals last year. He looks fit as for once and could dominate again. He’s completely worth the money if he’s giving silver service to the mids.

So it’s is a discussion that Darcy does more for Freo than Warner in our current team.

So Freo forward line as of '26

Fredericks Tracey Bolton
Pickett Amiss Jackson

With Sturt or Switta rotating off the bench

Look out AFL that's pure elite

Lmao what's with smol pp energy of potting Freo constantly?

Then you say something silly like this - course you do, all clubs would

more insults from freo supporters when they are too fragile to handle possibilities..
Many posters have stated he is 'absolutely no chance of leaving'

mmm ok sure..absolutely no chance

Isn't he an RFA though?

Match an offer and trade.

I don't think it works for either side to be honest.

Melbourne midfield is decent, but their forward line sucks. If they lost pickett, they are pretty much committing to a rebuild.

We need to improve our list, not make it worse. Brayshaw is a player you can grow a team around, a heart and sole player.

Even if we could replace Brayshaw plus lots and lots of picks with Pickett and Warner, while it would improve us massively talent wise, you shouldn't push out players like Brayshaw.

He is also good friends with Serong, so who knows what the long term impacts would be.

Understandable. I certainly think Freo need Brayshaw more than a Pickett.

But do feel that the midfield is somewhere stacked enough that they could afford to lose someone from it.

No, I don't think our midfield could afford to lose Serong, Young, Brayshaw or even the lesser players like Johnson, Erasmus etc.

The one player would could maybe afford to lose is Luke Ryan, as we have Josh Draper who could take that spot but with the durability of Pearce and Cox, it is best we keep them all.

Overall, I am very happy with our list except we need 1 or 2 small forwards. If we add Pickett, with out losing anyone big then we should be set for a good 7 or 8 years.
